The Dallas Cowboys have asked starting right tackle Doug Free to take a pay cut from his $7 million salary due in 2013, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network and NFL.com reports, this according to two sources with knowledge of the team's intentions. The move would free up money for the Cowboys to be able to sign free-agent offensive tackle Eric Winston. At this point, it's unclear if Free will take the pay cut that the team is requesting, it seems unlikely, according to one source. The Cowboys are in a difficult situation because Free's salary-cap hit and dead-money number are the same -- $10.02 million. Unless they designate him as a June 1 cut, which splits the hit over two years, releasing him doesn't help financially. Source: The Redzone
"So, Doug, we're requesting that you take a pay-cut so we can sign the guy who will replace you. Please? Pretty please?" Brilliant as usual, Jerry...
In Jerry's defense(and I can't stand Jerry) that is about all he can do. Apparently to cut him will cost the same to keep him. So why not ask?
Wow, no way in hell does Free take the paycut.... go ahead and cut him, he'll take his $10.2 mil and be a dead player for a year... Seriously though, why in the hell would you pay Romo the money you needed to sign FA O-Linemen... Sounds like an easy sell to me.. Hey we'll knock $12 mil off your salary and sign Winston with it, if we don't get Winston, we'll add the $12 mil to your contract. I'm starting to think Mr Davis didn't actually pass on to heaven/hell but rather his sole has taken up residents in Mr. Jones vacant, empty vessel.
