Doug Free underperformed significantly last season and what the Dallas Cowboys do in this week’s draft could impact Free’s future with the franchise, Jon Machota of the Dallas Morning News reports. To close Monday’s mandatory pre-draft press conference, Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones was asked about the 29-year-old right tackle. “I think it’s notable that we haven’t said where we are and he hasn’t said where he is relative to his status as we go into this draft,†Jones said. “That’s by design and certainly we wanted to see how and what we do in the draft. “We were talking about it as late as this morning. If you draft a tackle, how does that impact a player like Doug, whether or not you move him around? I’m sure he’s looking at it there as well.†Last season, Free led the team in penalties, totaling eight false starts and seven offensive holdings. ProFootballFocus ranked Free 66th among NFL tackles last season and he was so underwhelming that by the end of the year he was splitting time with Jermey Parnell. Source: The Redzone
He played well with Koiser next to him. For a guy that only decent himself, Koiser made a lot of guys a lot better. Why is this guy not a coach? Sent from my HTC Vivid
i think he defintiely could....especially if they go towards zone (which would probably even make him a better RT honestly)
My understanding is he doesn't have the build for Guard. But at this point I would be willing to try anything to sure up this God awful line we have.
Mike Fisher of 105.3 The Fan said this morning that Free is saying to people that he doesn't think he'll be a Cowboy for too much longer. Fisher said that something could be done with Free as soon as Monday. The Cowboys don't want to wait too long because they are interested in FA OL Tyson Clabo.
Scratch Clabo from the Cowboys' plans. Ian Rappaport of nfl.com is reporting that Clabo will sign a one-year with Miami sometime today.:icon_frown:
Mike Fisher said this morning that today could very well be an unofficial deadline for Free to make up his mind on accepting a pay cut. Stay tuned.
