Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones says Tony Romo is going to be spending more time around the team’s Valley Ranch practice facility than he has in past years, Jon Machota of the Dallas Morning News reports.

    How much time?

“Peyton Manning-type time on the job,†Jones said.

After a post-draft press conference Saturday night, Jones mentioned how Cowboys coach Jason Garrett wants players to be involved as much as possible, and who better to set an example than the team’s franchise quarterback who recently signed a six-year, $108 million contract extension?

Jones went on to say that the additional time will lead to Romo being more involved in what the team runs on offense.

“If Tony, for instance, would be here Monday through Saturday … from seven in the morning to six o’clock at night all over this place then that’s better than the way it’s been,†Jones said. “We’ll have more success, and Jason believes that. It’s certainly at quarterback but he believes it at the other positions.

“Tony is going to have more time, more presence, not only in the offseason but when the season starts, beginning Monday, assuming we played Sundays. He’s going to have more time on the job. A part of what we agreed with was extra time on the job, beyond the norm. That doesn’t mean that he didn’t have a lot of time on the job, but extra time on the job, Peyton Manning-type time on the job.â€

So that’s not implying that Romo wasn’t around enough before?

“No. It’s a bonus,†Jones said. “Anybody will tell you that Peyton Manning’s involvement in what they do is a bonus as opposed to what the general commitment is of top quarterbacks in the NFL. That’s a bonus. Again, because I haven’t been in meetings with Peyton for a long time, but we’re committed and [Romo's] committed to that type of in-season and off-season approach for these years under his contract.â€

I think this is an acknowledgment that Tony Romo is better at running the offense than Jason Garrett, personally..but that could just be me.

Seriously, Romo wasn't the issue last year... That O-Line was one of the worst in the league. It doesn't matter who your QB is if that O-Line can't block the game is over...

Jerry just had the worst draft in Cowboy's history.

If people only listened to me when I try to tell them this. Every non/bandwagon cowboy fan just listens to the media talk nothing but crap about the guy. It's hard to run an offense from your back side.

I've been having a raging battle with a guy on PSD about this very thing. I say the OL was awful, and he says that the OL wasn't, and he has stats to back them up. His stats say that the Cowboys stats weren't that much different from the other teams in the league.

Only things you see on Espn about romo are interceptions. They try to portray him as the worse quarterback in the league I feel. People ask me all the time about his huge extension for someone who can't win a game. And I always say I'm good with it we have a legit quarterback our problems are around him receivers not running routes correctly and piss poor oline play. Then ravens fans try to tell me flacco is a better qb then romo. Nonsense pure nonsense.

When you have a team of with talented skilled positions, you have to get guys for down in the trenches... last year the Cowboys would have been better off pulling some fans out of the stand and putting them out there on O-Line.

I don't think they will be any better this year.

I think the guy's problem is that he just hates Romo and won't admit it. His solution would have been to trade Romo before he signed the extension, promote Orton, then draft and groom a QB in the meantime. I just don't have confidence that this front office has the ability to find a good QB through the draft.

i was going to make a joke about romo's wife being hotter than peyton's wife and that's why romo doesn't spend as much time in the office but peyton has a pretty good looking wife himself.

pretty good for an ugly hecker.
