Free Agent QB Tim Tebow’s Former Coach Calls Out NFL

The New York Jets don’t think Tim Tebow has a future with them and certainly there are a number of other teams and coaches who feel the same way.

But Tebow has picked up plenty of believers along his career path and there’s at least one who still thinks the 25-year-old lefty has a future in the NFL.
Tim Tebow's high school offensive coordinator said he knew Tebow would be an NFL quarterback from the first time he saw him throw when he was at Nease High School. (Justin Yurkanin/St. Augustine Record)

“The day I met him and saw him throw the first time—even sitting down for the first time and talking ball with him—I knew he was going to be an NFL football player—at quarterback,†said Ken Fasnacht, Tebow’s offensive coordinator at Nease High School and now the offensive coordinator at Southern Oregon, which led the NAIA in scoring (52.8 points) and total offense (642.0) in 2012. “I still think he should be a quarterback in the NFL. I just think that league is spoiled, doesn’t coach those guys. If he’s not ready to go, if they have to work on something, they don’t want to fix anything. They want him already ready to go. I knew he’d play quarterback in the NFL and I still think he can.â€

Tebow needs to change positions. He's definitely NFL worthy talent and can help a team win.

Where you gonna put him? He's too slow to be a legit RB, he's an unknown quantity at TE, and is he really such an amazing talent that youre going to spend the time, money, and roster spot to teach a player how to run routes and catch when there's plenty of guys out there available who already can?

i dont think hes too slow to be a RB, hes essentially peyton hillis.

Its the media circus he causes cuz he winzzz gamezzzz

I don't think he'd be a feature running back or TE, but I think you can move him around in the backfield in a committee approach. Give him 10 touches a game and red zone opportunities and let him work. He's better in the RZ than several players in the league. But as a QB he's a waste of a spot. At another position, I think there's a lot of value. Hines Ward changed and had a great career. Michael Robinson changed and is still in the league and servicable, and I think Tebow would be more productive than him.

At first I thought the former coach was Urban Meyer but then saw it was his high school coach lol. Tebow is an athlete and not a QB. Other than starting for Denver for a handful of games he never got a chance really, especially in NY. If he did good enough in practice maybe the Jets would have benched Sanchez but Ryan and Tannenbaum were married to Sanchize anyway so.

If he goes to Canada and plays CFL, he could make teams in the NFL notice him for what he can do at QB, OR he could suck really bad and then that's it, time for that Sunday church show.

He should keep his options open towards new careers cause doesn't look good for him at QB.

it couldn't be the 48% completion rate that is throwing off the NFL execs could it? you have to pass in this league now.

If he's crap in the position he plays in (Which he undeniably is) and has no other abilities that would allow him to play another position right now, why waste time on him when there are many others that can do what he does and do it a heck of a lot better.

The fact is, talented athletes go in and out of the NFL all the time without a whimper, the fact that teams and the media give him a free pass because he's a cult of personality is a disgrace to everybody involved.

Hopefully he bails out of the league gracefully, but sure as crap there will be round the clock Tebow-watch for the rest of the year, whether he spends the season on the field, on the bench, on the couch or the Great White North.

I don't think Ryan was too keen on him being in NY. And you had to know that he was the odd man out in Denver when they signed Peyton. So, I don't think he's been given a fair chance to show what he can do.

Say what you want about his play making ability, or lack of same. What I think he brings to the table is leadership. There are a number of teams who lack that.

Maybe some teams don't want a "choirboy" in the locker room?

He can't play QB in this league and he can't play any other positions in the NFL. If he could, he wouldn't be sitting unemployed.

Nicely put, he's done in the NFL.

    I just don't think so.

he could play RB...he would essentially be peyton hillis, the problem is the circus he causes. he would be ok in NE because there would never be a QB controversy there, but that may be underestimating the power of tebow.

I think once he finally quits he'll be inked to one of the most lucrative tv broadcasting deals a former athlete has ever signed

Is he articulate? I've never heard him speak that much.

Well, either way, if he gets another chance to pass or provide some leadership anywhere, then good luck to him. But, in my opinion, he didn't get enough time behind the center to show any type of skill, if any, that he would be considered a great QB. Some athletes have their prime time when it actually counts and some just don't. Tebow's prime ended in Florida. Once he got to the NFL, he might have had a few good snaps, but that's it.

That's my point. He really hasn't had that much time to develop. Some QBs take longer than others to get it. Ryan never seemed him to be sold on him in NY, and you knew that Tebow was the odd man out in Denver once the Broncos signed Manning.

In saying that, what team do you think he should have gone to back then, when he came from the draft? What team do you think would have maybe given him more of a chance to prove his worth as a QB? And do you think he should have tried a different position instead?

    1. One of the Fla. teams. MIA, TB, or JAX.

    2. Same answer.

    3. I think he should have gone out as a jack of all trades player, QB, RB, WR, TE, you name it.
