Cardinals defensive end Darnell Dockett is glad that defensive coordinator Ray Horton is gone, Darren Urban of Azcardinals.com reports. “It’s like a million pounds off your shoulders,†Dockett said. Former defensive coordinator Ray Horton ran a 3-4 alignment in which the defensive linemen were used in part to keep the offensive linemen off the linebackers. Aggressive moves took a back seat to scheme, and Dockett was arguably the most frustrated with his two-gap duties. What little Dockett has heard in meetings and done on the field has flipped those feelings. “Personally, I had nothing against Ray,†Dockett said. “But I hated that scheme. I really hated it. I played it because I neede to. But this defense is based on guys and what their ability allows them to be good at. What they were drafted for.†Dockett likes the idea of being able to aggressively attack blockers one-on-one, rather than absorbing blocks and going from there. “We want to take advantage of their God-given ability,†defensive line coach Brentson Buckner said. “We don’t want to handicap them by the things we do. We want to line them up, make sure they have good technique, and let the dogs hunt.†Source: The Redzone
yep, that scheme didn't work at all ......... working as a team to be successful ......... freaking dockett is such an idiot.
Dockett is full of crap. Calais Campbell had no problem putting up sacks in that scheme compared to Dockett's 1.5 sacks. Arizona also used four man fronts last year from what I've seen and read and he still wasn't producing. He'd be better off blaming his piss poor play on his hamstring...lol. Players that blame the scheme are just dumb. You'd be better off just coming out, producing this season and then maybe "blame the scheme" for your "down" season.
Dockett likes to hear himself talk. I still remember him breaking Earnest Graham's leg. You didn't f*ck with Dockett while he was in Tally.
This. As a Cards fan I'd be the first to say that I wish Dockett would just shut the heck up. If it weren't for that crapty scheme the Cards would have been 1-15 the past two seasons with that embarrassing offense.
I originally didnt want to switch at all, but I myself am excited to see what he's drawing up in Cleveland with speed like Mingo's.
