i was a mod and lead writer for a forum before i came to GIF. We formed a partnership with BR and posted our original writings on BR, giving our forum more publicity and, in return, giving BR more original content.

My writings from our forum were never in slideshow form. I submitted several writings to BR, most of which were very well received/viewed (in fact, I received some sort of award for one of them for reaching a certain amount of reads--and amazingly, it was NOT in slideshow format).

BR has 'editors' that give you feedback/comments/suggestions on each writing you submit. After a few writings, each feedback I got from the BR editors was suggesting that I start putting things in slideshow format with short comments on each page.

I tried a couple in slideshow format and felt there was very little true writing I could put into it. Writing 'captions' did not feel like writing to me.But they prefer everything be put into slideshow format even if it is something that is not a list or ranking and doesn't warrant it, which in my opinion kills any writing flow/creativity.

I understand they are trying to appeal to the masses (the USA Today mentality), but I know for a fact that smarter readers appreciate a well-written piece versus a watered down piece of crap that simply has colorful pictures and a few captions with it.

Well put. This right here is an inside perspective on what I was essentially trying to get at. I just can't see how the slideshow format is comfortable to any reader. Who would actually want to click a bunch of bullcrap instead of reading a complete article? It just seems like a way for them to get page views, though at the expense of the reader, which is a really poor long-term strategy IMO.

Once again, this is meant to clarify my position on BR as a "news organization," not at all to be inflammatory or insulting toward anyone on this site.

Give the Bears front office an B for the effort of shoring up that OL, the new Bear staff a B for at least addressing the glaring issues that have been consistent the last few years & how they're approaching it,

& Cutler an A for not being sacked or throwing any INTs yet...

So once, many years ago, BR got the "scoop" on a news story about a fake sport by stealing it from another site, and nobody on a football forum had heard about it yet...and that's your validation for BR not being garbage? Well the other day I picked an apple out of a cherry tree and this dog flew down and mowed the grass around me so AOL is still the bee's knees.
