Lions defensive tackle Nick Fairley has been brimming with confidence this offseason. He has repeatedly stated his goal to play in the Super Bowl this year and declared he and teammate Ndamukong Suh the best defensive tackle tandem in the NFL.

The soft-spoken Suh isn't ready to make the same claim, but has embraced his teammate's enthusiasm.

"It's definitely something where Nick put a target on our backs, but I've been playing with a target on my back since I came into the league," Suh said in an interview with the NFL Network. "It's a great challenge Nick put in for us, being the best two guys. It's something we've got to live up to. We have the potential and the opportunity to be that great, but we have to work together, put in the work and make sure we get it done."

Fairley has impressed teammates, not just with his words, but with his actions, coming into the early stages of the Lions' offseason program in excellent shape.

Outside observers are also taking notice, with NFL.com's Bucky Brooks projecting Fairley to be among the most improved players at his position in 2013.

"He has shown dominant ability against both the run and pass," Brooks wrote. "Additionally, Fairley has displayed the non-stop motor and nasty disposition that initially led the Lions to believe he would develop into the ideal complement to Suh on the interior."

HOME ALERT! If Akeem Spence can be as impressive during the season as he has been during camp, him and McCoy could be the best DT tandem

Not because of your dominance, but because of your boneheaded decisions based on your temper.
