To paraphrase Terrell Owens, Donovan McNabb loves him some Donovan McNabb. The former NFL quarterback who was once benched for Rex Grossman has some thoughts on Matthew Stafford's new three-year extension that will pay the Lions quarterback $43 million in guaranteed money, including a $27.5 million signing bonus. The deal, by the way, makes Stafford among the highest-earning quarterbacks in the league in terms of average annual salary. He currently ranks sixth behind Joe Flacco ($20.1), Drew Brees ($20.0), Peyton Manning ($19.2), Aaron Rodgers ($18.68) and Tony Romo ($17.07), and as far as McNabb is concerned, this just won't do. "When you look at just the numbers overall, you have to think about 12,000 yards and being the youngest quarterback to reach this feat and also the things he's been able to accomplish, you know you begin to question this." McNabb said Tuesday night on NFL Total Access (via MLive.com). "It's about wins and losses again. Now, as a quarterback and as Matt Stafford, hey, I would take that contract just like Tony Romo took his contract. But is he worth top-5 money? I would have to say no. And I say that because it's about wins and losses. "What has he really done for the Detroit Lions? Nothing." Source: CBSSports
eh, sure wins and losses are important but i'm not sure how many of the lions losses you can actually pin on him the last few years. the lions are not exactly a well-run team.
Agreed, such a poor defense. I've never seen a team have its franchise QB worked out, have a #1 receiver (by far the best in the league) and still manage to be so not good. Separately, can we just put an embargo on all McNabb-sourced "news" around here? Crap's getting old lol
I really enjoyed watching McNabb when he was in Philadelphia. Thought he was a pretty stand-up guy who fought through a lot of adversity. His comments throughout the past year have seemed really petty, and ill-timed. I think we can all tell the issues in Detroit can't be attributed to the QB. Stafford is a really good QB imo. The issues are clearly from coaching, team discipline and management
mcnabb got benched over rex grossman,so who the hell is he to talk about somebody not doing anything? he needs to eat some more chunky soup and shut the heck up!
The onus is now on the Lions to finish this project of a team before Stafford ends up in a body bag or gets into bad habits trying & make up for the deficiencies. He's definitely an above average QB that warrants the overpaying climate of today's NFL.
