The Patriots said they are "extremely disappointed" to learn of CB Alfonzo Dennard's Thursday morning DUI arrest according to ESPN Boston. The team made the following statement: "The New England Patriots are extremely disappointed to learn of Alfonzo Dennard’s arrest. We take this matter very seriously and are working to get more information on the incident." It would not be all that surprising if the team released Dennard given the haste with which they cut Aaron Hernandez. Dennard was already on probation for punching a police officer and in danger of missing training camp while serving a jail sentence. Now there is a good chance he may miss the start of the NFL regular season if suspended by Roger Goodell. The Patriots took a chance on Dennard in round seven of the NFL Draft despite the assault arrest. Source: The Redzone
at one point in time, weren't the patriots a model organization and supposedly squeaky clean? It seems to me over the past few years, they have purposely added a lot of suspect characters to their roster. Why did they go away from what used to work for them?
Ok really this is only 2 arrests. Although one is a really bad one and the other is really stupid timing, it's far from being the Bengals.
Another player that the Patriots drafted that had off the field red flags. When will the Patriots learn?
Well, i wasn't really even referring to the 2 recent arrests. I was referring to the overall general character quality of their draft picks and veteran pick ups in the past few years (talib, ocho, etc). I know they probably felt like if they brought these troubled characters into their model organization they could "fix" them, and maybe it worked in a few situations, but I'm just not sure why they need to take the chance. maybe recent events will make them back off from this approach?
Let's be fair now. It's gonna take a lot of practice & patience to attain Bengal status. Rome wasn't built in a day. Keep the faith... Sign of the times, I believe, Cap'n Today's athletes are even less prepared yet still talented enough to make more risk/reward calls than the past it seems. Think we'll see more & more of this around the league as time goes on, not just with the Pats.
it's interesting that you say that I've been doing a lot of reading on the generation coming up right now because I have 4 teenagers. there are many sociologists that believe this generation is extremely narcissistic due to the social media/technology aspects that they have at their disposal. More than ever, they feel the world revolves around them and they have no consequences. many believe this type of culture/upbringing will create more sociopaths and psychopaths than we could ever imagine.
Amen... This technology/media era along with more kids raising kids will be the the bane of this generation. Not a good sign & not just on the sports field.
Ok I see what you're saying. Good point. I really do hope they stop trying to fix all the "bad guys" just because it worked with Dillon and moss.
Be afraid...be very afraid. My daughter is now 19 & it's staggering the disconnect from reality & what the constant moment to moment influence from shallow immaturity destroys. It's undone all she was taught & how she was raised. Technology is the new devil...
granted, young minds have always been erratic/shallow/narcissistic in general throughout history (some studies show the human brain is not fully developed until age 30), but there are these indications that many of the new avenues young people are using to develop socially in the 21st century are definitely not helping the situation. I suppose, Tark, we can just hope that at the end of the day, when our kids finally become adults, what WE taught them will trump all the rest. That's really all we can hope for.
