Chip Kelly Won't Cut Embattled WR Riley Cooper

Riley Cooper left the Eagles on Friday to attend counseling, and while Chip Kelly said he didn't know when the wide receiver would return, the coach made it clear that he will return, Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

"There's never been any question of cutting Riley," Kelly said. "We talked on Day 1 when we met with Riley -- myself, Jeffrey [Lurie] and Howie [Roseman] -- and Riley was in full agreement that he needed to get some assistance in this situation. Now it took us about 24, 36 hours to kind of put a plan in place. I was really important, I thought, for Riley to be with us yesterday. Just didn't want him sitting him at home."

He may want to send a Thank You Card to Jeremy Maclin for getting injured...

It's not like any of us have never said the "forbidden" word. He just got caught. Honestly, IMO he was drunk, and at a full on redneck concert and got caught up in the moment. Probably trying to impress some silly butt girls.

This should be a non issue. If it wasn't for the Zimmerman case and all the hype about racism this would most likely be just shrugged off as "some drunk NFL player showing his butt at a concert".

I don't think he was doing it to impress girls. He's just an angry drunk. There are other videos out there of him starting fights in the parking lot before the concert.

Eh, Kenny really isn't full on redneck. Only redneck part about it is it's all white people there. Jason Aldean, Blake Shelton... those are straight redneck shows.

Good thing he didn't do this at a Kanye West concert, we would be talking about who Riley Cooper once was.

You'd think a guy who went to a Catholic high school would know better.

I'm about 25 minutes from CCC. They recruit. You don't have to be catholic to go there. Just have athletic talent. Just like Notre Dame

I'm from Texas, live in West Virginia. I've seen Kenny three times, it's more beach hats and flip flops. I've seen George Strait, Blake Shelton, Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean, Brad Paisley... they're awful when it comes to the rednecks in the crowd compared to a Kenny show. Not saying that there aren't rednecks there, but Kenny doesn't have that southern boy style that draws rednecks to him.

IMO, Chesney is just a country version of Buffett.

And that is pretty much what his shows have turned into. It's a huge summer party and pretty much every single person there is smashed...:cele16:

It's really not that stupid from the teams point if view...it could actually escalate to something pretty serious...

unfortunately they probably will end up having to cut him just because of all the outcry.

I think its actually more of a team cohesion concern. You can withstand outcry on this one, wait it out and it goes away. But the obvious point is him having to smooth it over and coexist with the people he has to work with. I think its not even worth the risk to your entire team if Maclin's not hurt and they're relying on him to step up.

We've already heard a few people express problems with it. I can see it both ways from management's perspective, but I don't even think its a discussion if Maclin isn't hurt. Not worth the risk that it tears apart your team before the season starts. At this point I kinda think this thing festers and they maybe still drop him.

oh, i agree. i'm not saying the 'outcry' is only coming from the media and the p.c. crowd of america. there has been a public outcry within his own locker room also. i was listening to a guy that covers the eagles on the radio and he says that it is definitely an issue right now in the eagles locker room. they are somewhat divided over the topic.
