Chase Utley is staying in those red pinstripes.

Utley and the Phillies agreed to a contract that could keep the five-time All-Star second baseman in Philadelphia through at least the 2015 season, sources confirmed to ESPN on Wednesday.

The deal is worth $27 million for two seasons with multiple vesting options, sources told ESPN.com's Jayson Stark.

Utley has battled knee injuries in the past, but that hasn't been a problem this year. He missed a month with an oblique injury.

"We'd like to keep the man in our pinstripes," general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said last week.

Before the All-Star break, Utley said: "I've never envisioned wearing another team's uniform."

Utley, who turns 35 on Dec. 17, would've been a free agent after the season. He's in the last year of an $85 million contract signed in January 2007.

Good for Utley and good for the Phillies. Just a great player who goes about his business. Didn't realize the word 'loyalty' was still in the baseball dictionary.

    DawkinsINT Tebow free since 9/5/2015.

I love Chase, but not a fan of this extension. He can't stay healthy and it was time to move on and rebuild.

Good points DawkinsINT and smeagle. I've just admired the guy from afar and aware of the age/injuries issues, but he's putting up better numbers this year than he posted the past few seasons. Just looks like he's got more in the tank, but smeagle makes a good point about another team ponying up that kind of cash. Maybe all the crap news about roids, PED's and the like made me over-react to some positive news about a player that I have always admired. My bad.

No we're just a lil sour about how the gm has tried to hold onto yesterday. In reality this deal isnt so bad on its own but when you combine it with the other mistakes it makes philles fans cringe.

Can't say I'm really thrilled about this deal. Love Chase, but lets be honest...he's not worth that cash at this point...
