A marijuana advocacy group is going the extra mile in support of NFL players being able to smoke pot with a billboard in front of Mile High Stadium.

According to the petition from the Marijuana Policy Project at change.org, the group is calling for the league to "not push players to drink and drive" by not cracking down on the "safer choice" of pot with harsh penalties.

The group makes the point that in Denver and in the state of Colorado, where the Broncos host the Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens on Thursday night, that marijuana use is legal for both medicinal and recreational purposes.

Turner Sports' Rachel Nichols gave us a look at what the billboard looks like, as it has the same sentiment as the petition: New billboard right in front of Mile High Stadium; group wants players to be allowed to smoke pot bc it's legal here.

The peititon is addressed to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, and is written like this:

"Please change the NFL's marijuana policy so that players are no longer punished for making the safer choice to use marijuana instead of alcohol if that is what they prefer. Now that the U.S. Justice Department has announced that states are allowed to legalize marijuana for adults or for medical use, the NFL should also recognize and respect those laws.

The league would never punish a player simply for having a beer or cocktail, so why does it levy severe penalties against them for using a product that is less toxic, less addictive, and less likely to contribute to violence? The NFL’s harsh marijuana penalties do nothing to promote the health and safety of the players. If anything, they put them in danger by steering them toward using alcohol and away from making the safer choice to use marijuana instead.

It's time for the NFL to stop driving players to drink with severe penalties for using marijuana, especially in states where marijuana has been made legal for adult or medical use."

Honestly if it's legal in your state the players within those states shouldn't be tested for it.

I think most know which side of this debate I happen to fall on; however, I'm not expecting much change as a result of this effort.

That wouldent be fair though you know how many free agents the broncos would get because of that lol. Ricky Williams would try to make a comeback.
