Eagles’ quarterback Michael Vick says that his younger teammates do not respect him. When receiver Riley Cooper and cornerback Cary Williams got into a heated fight during practice, Vick was one of the players stepping in to break up the action. Vick tried to restrain Williams, who continued to shout at Cooper as the altercation simmered. Williams pretty much ignored Vick’s attempt to calm things down. While it may have had more to do with Williams’s emotions than a slight toward his quarterback, Vick didn’t appreciate it. “I try to be the peacemaker, but these young dudes don’t respect me,†Vick told the Philadelphia Daily News. “Our maturity level’s gotta be on a whole different plane. Regardless of who the catalyst was for the whole fight, that doesn’t matter. We’ve gotta be men. “We’re not guys who are out on the street, fighting one another,†Vick continued. “We’re teammates…It’s game week. We don’t have time for that. I don’t. It’s a distraction.†Source: Sporting News
the youngsters dont respect you because they went from playing vick in madden, to tacking vick in practice. the vick mystic is gone yo
I feel you, Mike It's a sign of the times. Values have dropped & the new generation doesn't believe that they should respect their Elders. Blame it on the times & the parenting. However, I'd also add that you're learning maturity at a late date yourself & lost some of the respect from previous behavior. Either way, I'm 100% with you...
Cary Williams was an butt when he was in Baltimore and frankly, he wasn't that great as a CB. Vick is really turning the corner maturity wise...good for him.
I think it's a good thing for the young Eagles to not respect Vick. He's a crapty human being with a crap attitude, poor work ethic and has shown very limited development in the time he's been pro. You guys say that this is new found maturity for Ron, if that was the case, would he have told Cary Williams in private instead of crying about it in the media?
I agree with some of what you are saying, but everyone has been praising his work ethic the last couple of years.
Why would they respect Vick? What has he done to earn their respect? Respect has to be earned, not given and thus far, I havent seen Vick do much of anything to earn the respect of the locker room.
This ^^ and in the media, he's been saying all the "right things." Signs point to a more "mature" Vick. Still a creep in my mind, but a more mature creep...lol.
Funny talking about the need to earn respect from a generation that feels they were born with it. Tarkus hit the nail on the head with this one.
