I'm not sure what Chipper was thinking with those timeouts on the Chargers last drive, but oh well. The defense was atrocious. The lack of running McCoy in the 2nd half reminded me of Big Red, except they actually moved the ball with others. The offense is fun to watch....the defense...not so much.

I don't understand why people are confused about the timeouts. Chip doesn't call the timeouts, SD runs clock down to one second and they go for a GW field goal. Use the timeouts and prevent a first down, and you at least get a kick return and a play or two. This game could've easily been far worse than it looks on paper. Boykin forced a Gates fumble on Eagles one yard line which saved 7 points and Matthews fumbled on an SD drive that looked promising. I bet Rivers has never had an easier day behind center. Marched down the field almost every drive. Completion after completion after completion. Could this defense be worse than last year's?
He missed more than a few easy passes. The one to Casey which would have been 6, that one to DeSean, one to Avant in the middle of the field near the end of the game...
Giving the timeouts led to the Chargers getting more plays to move closer for the FG. They were already in FG range. Why allow them to make it an easier one?
Vick missed an open Desean deep twice in the first half that would have been easy TDs. The announcers sucked Vick off, but he made mistakes. The lack of defense was the true reason for the loss though.
But they only got like two yards on three plays. And they ended up kicking further to center right. It could've been worse, but it ended up doing exactly what he wanted. FREAK! This easily could've been a win.
It'll get pinned on the defense, sure. And they deserve their share. But SD gave us over 500 yards, too. We had many opportunities and didn't take advantage of them.
Chargers had opportunities too. Eagles D gave the offense a gift c/o Antonio Gates that would've been a TD. And another c/I Ryan Matthews when the Chargers were driving into the Red Zone.
Chip Kelly will work on defense next season. He never had to worry about that in college. Switching to the 3-4 was dumb move number 1. Dumb move number 2 wasn't keeping the 4-3 and hiring Steve Spagnuolo. Chip Kelly is too smart for his own good IMO. Dude needed to work on his defense, not just use what he had and hope for the best. They're going to have the most prolific scoring offense in NFL history but they're going to go 6-10.
I don't see why Chip just can't revert back to a 4-3 scheme if he thinks they have a shot at winning anything. I think no matter what, he's gotta give the 3-4 with this team a few games before making that decision (if it was an option.)
as has been said, the eagles defense looks bad. not sure i agree with chip's play-calling and game management in the last few minutes of the game either.
I sure as heck hope he doesn't. The personnel is just not there for a successful 3-4. Maybe against a QB who is scared for his life, but that's about it. Switching back to a 4-3 would be the best thing but I see him being way too stubborn to do something like this.
