i agree. that's why all of the people that were instantly annointing him the next great NFL coach all spring and sumer when we didn't really know were annoying the crap out of me. i'm just glad they have been shut up for now and we can just see how the eagles evolve from here.

eh, while i don't think the eagles have the most-talented roster in the league, they certainly don't have the worst roster. they can be more competitive than this with this roster.

No they cant you are overrating this roster big time. Especially on defense if you think that unit is worth a crap. Cant win much giving up 35 points a game.

Go to USC if you want that crap and use a freaking DEFENSE. He made RETARDED choices for his coaching staff and figured if he scored 50 a game defense wasn't an issue. Who is a stud outside of Shady? Peters isn't the dominant player he was as he battles back to full health. Desean can be taken out of the game by a good corner with a touch of help. The lack of Maclin can not be understated. Have you noticed Cooper's separation? You've got good coverage on him now. Celek is playing like a shot fighter. Vick has played well, but he's missed open targets and has never been a smart QB. With the yardage they've gained, it shows that Chip's offense may work, they just need the pieces.

The hiring of Billy Davis is something I was against from the get-go. However, what playmakers does he have to work with? It's a change in defensive philosophy that they don't have the players for yet.

Did you expect Chip to instantly be dominant despite what he was up against? You probably don't remember Jimmy Johnson being 1-15 in his first season with the Cowboys.

This roster was crap thanks to fatass and the freaking nerd still at the gm spot.

Am i sold on kelly and his philosophy ? No but fans like you need to stop the asinine reactionary bullcrap after every game. If you expected anything beyond a rebuilding season you're not paying attention to reality.

well, first off, i am not an Eagles fan so you are getting a neutral viewpoint here.

secondly, there are plenty of guys on that eagles defense that would start on most other teams. they are professionals. they just aren't being coached/schemed properly to have better results.

Look at the Colts defensive roster. Look at the Titans defensive roster. Look at the Saints defensive roster.

You are not going to find 11 perennial pro-bowlers on each of those units. They are simply being coached/schemed to succeed. There is more than enough talent on the eagles defense to at least be mediocre. The Eagles may not have the most talented defensive roster but their enormous ineptitude is a coaching/scheming issue first and foremost.

Who is one Pro Bowl caliber player on the Eagles defense? The coaching sucks, but the talent is equally as bad, especially that secondary.

trent cole has made 2 pro bowls and their defensive roster is loaded with 1st and 2nd round picks. there IS talent there and with proper coaching/scheming, they could at least be mediocre.

now, having said that, they have just switched to a 3-4 and it usually takes a team a half season or full season to really get used to it so this is an unfinished thing we are trying to analyze.

 

While scheme and the transition plays a part it absolutely comes down to a lack of talent.

Trent cole is playing out of position and hasnt been a pro-bowler since '09. He is on the decline.

Ryans - no good in the 3/4 which is why he wanted oit of houston

Nate allen - sucks ass

Carey williams - sucks

Bradley fletcher - whatever

Cox - good but not great. So far

Brandon graham - average and couldnt stay healthy

Barwin - ok

Kendricks - basically invisable at this point

Chung - sucks rod

Nobody on that defense should be called a stud. There's some talent but no way are they loaded with talent.

Smeagle did a good job of breaking down the players we have, and there aren't studs. The scheme change definitely hurts, but even in a 4-3, the defensive talent is lacking.
