Several NFL clubs are planning to determine the degree to which New York Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks might be available via trade following New York dropping to 0-6 this week, according to league sources. Teams view Nicks as the best option available and with the Giants in a freefall, big changes possibly on the way there, and Nicks a potential unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, other general managers want to hear for themselves just how amenable to a trade Giants GM Jerry Reese might be. Source: CBS Sports SteveRobWhatever's Take: I could see the Giants parting ways with Nicks for the right price. This team's season is done and Nicks will be looking for a huge payday. The Giants already invested some cash into Victor Cruz and having even more money tied up at one position can't be ideal for GM Jerry Reese. I wonder if teams like the Ravens and Falcons try to swing deals.
So many receivers have been groomed by the Giants just to go elsewhere. None of them on the level of Hakeem, by any means, but it's just more of the same. They should trade him, though. No reason they shouldn't when they still have Reuben in addition to Cruz.
i couldn't see a team giving up a 3rd rounder just to rent Nicks for half a season. If a team works something out on a long-term contract beforehand with nicks, then I could see them giving up a 3rd rounder.
No. But a team could ask permission to talk with Nicks and the agent and come to an agreement on a contract...long term. Otherwise, they could tell the Giants that they'll offer a 6th round pick b/c there is no long term in place and tent the guy. For a team like Atlanta, a rental could be perfect.
