Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith recently told NFL Network's "NFL Total Access" that he has "no idea" what the term "game manager" means.

Six games into his Chiefs career, coach Andy Reid used similar terminology to describe Smith's best attributes.

"Listen, he's taking care of the football, and when it counts, he makes the plays. I appreciate that," Reid said Thursday. "We're winning football games and he's doing a nice job of managing it, and everyone feeds off it, both sides of the ball, his ability to manage it."

DaBears22's Take: While it's still early in the season, with the Chiefs defense, all Smith needs to be is a 'game manager' and they'll do well. Limit the turnovers and a team has a much better chance to win games.

It's kind of refreshing to hear a coach speak the truth when it comes to the "talent" of his QB...

Captain Checkdown, game manager or whatever you want to call him, he's exactly what the Chiefs need for their style of an offense and it's tough to argue with 6-0. Manage away, Mr. Smith.

It sickens me that Reid can say such a thing about a QB, when he was an awful "game manager" as a head coach for the past 7 or 8 years.

Glad Alex is having success. The man is all clbutt. Call it what you want, but he's helping his team win games.

Alex is good dude, I definitely respect his perseverance and work ethic. Not many guys could make it through the crap he dealt with and just put it aside and continue to work to get better, regardless of where he is on the depth chart, what his role on the team is, or what anyones saying about him. So many guys just fold and crumble and get tossed to the wayside under that kind of pressure, when they come in raw and their skills dont immediately translate to the NFL. Dude definitely made it through all that crap, I think thats pretty commendable.

That being said, FREAK HIM. I'LL NEVER FORGIVE HIM FOR 2005-2011. He wasn't a good quarterback hindered by bad coaching or surrounding cast (although neither of those situations was ever exactly ideal for him during those years), he was a freaking terrible quarterback, period. It was usually extremely painful to watch him try not to be.

LMAO which is why I said he couldn't be mad that SF benched and then traded him, because without Harbaugh he wouldn't be where he is right now

it's pretty funny here in k.c. with the portion of their fans who only watch their own team and didn't really know much about smith's time in san fran. almost halfway through his first season, those k.c. fans are just now starting to realize smith's deficiencies. it's like flashing back to 2006.

I understand that Smith was at the helm during that time period when the Niners actually helped make the Cards competitive. That said, as an outsider looking in there was nothing in the NFL more comical than watching the 49ers implode on itself. To go from the top of the heap to the bottom of the crappile was really kind of fun to watch. Singletary was a better watch on TV than David Letterman. Unfortunately, Smith was right at the center of that clusterheck. Dude should have never been the No. 1 pick in the draft that year and it went downhill from there for him. How many coordinators/HC's for Smith during that 2005-2011 period?

So now Alex is also a liar as well as being a check down guy??? He's so freaking intelligent that "HE" doesn't even know what a game manager is???? Alex, you've been doing this crap your whole career in the NFL, so in 2013 you have no idea what that means???? FREAK YOU!!!!
