So, youre ranking d tackles based on a stat sheet? Cmon jj, you know better than that.

This isn't baseball. Some of the best d tackles in the game don't put up huge stats. In most schemes, that's not what they're asked to do but it doesn't mean they aren't doing an excellent job.

That's not biased....His talent and production on the field have helped backup the fact that he is indeed underpaid.

A good defensive tackle can't be measured by stats. They can create the pressure that makes the back run a different direction behind the line of scrimmage that someone else cleans up.

And how can we tell who does that the most if we aren't sitting there watching every play by every DT in the NFL

Just like we do with every other player. We see a small portion of their plays and act like we know something, when in fact...we don't know crap.

    exaggerate much?

no one does that. not even the coaches. but if you watch every team periodically, say, once a month, instead of just focusing only on your home team every week and an occassional prime time game (which is what most people do), then you can get a pretty good idea of what is going on with each team and each player, because you end up seeing all of them a few times.

Fact is, certain teams don't get much national action year in and year out, so most people don't watch many of their games and don't know anything about their players so they just lean on a stat sheet, which doesn't tell the whole story. For example, in Buffalo, Marcel Dareus is absolutely dominating this season and is a big factor in Mario Williams resurgence. Grouped with Kyle Williams, the Bills have one of, if not the best d-line in the nfl right now. if you watch their games, they are causing a lot of problems and wreaking havoc in oppossing backfields, and Dareus is driving that bus right now.

people who have taken the time to watch the panthers know that kawaan short and star lotuleilei, grouped with hardy and johnson are giving headaches to opponents each week. they are opening things up for kuechly and davis and making things much easier for their secondary to dominate. And Short's amazing start in the league is a big part of that.

football is not baseball and is much more difficult to measure with stats alone, especially at the DT position. You actually have to watch the players play. It doesn't have to be every play of every week but you can get a pretty damn good idea of how they are doing by watching them just occassionally instead of just accepting whatever game cbs and fox give you every sunday, which is generally the same 10 teams over and over (the high-profile 'commercial' teams).

Valid points. But I believe your being to dismissive of the season Hatcher is Hatcher is having. On a pace to get nearly 14 sacks at the DT position, dominating against the run and making a DL with guys named Selvie, Hayden, and Wilber an outstanding unit. We have shut down some of the leagues better HBs, and have gotten consistent pressure on the QB.

Hatcher doesn't have resume that Suh has, but this he has been a much bigger reason for his units success

OT, but talk about improving you DL in one fell swoop. That Carolina interior is gonna be nasty for a long time

if i sounded like i was dismissing hatcher, then i didn't get my message across clearly because i agree that hatcher has been dominant this year. he is wreaking havoc in oppossing backfields, garnering extra attention, and opening things up for selvie, ware, wilber (now) and lee.

he is and will be a huge part of the cowboys being successful as the season goes along and if they are to make a playoff run. he absolutely is a value pick-up for them and playing some of the best DT this year in the league. There is no arguing that.

Best is always a matter of opinion. IMO with what he is doing and working, I have to go with Hatcher
