Despite a Monday report that Jay Cutler plans to play versus the Detroit Lions, the Chicago Bears quarterback was noncommittal Tuesday about his chances of suiting up in Week 10.

"I don't think we can say I'll be out there for Detroit," Cutler said on ESPN 1000's "Waddle and Silvy" show.

Cutler's acknowledgment backs up a report from NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport, who was told Monday that the quarterback was unsure to return from his torn groin muscle by Sunday.

SteveRobWhatever's Take: Cutler was optimistic just a day before about his status for this weekend's tilt vs the Lions. Now he's saying there are 'hurdles' he has to overcome before playing and that he won't rush himself back. He might not want to stay on the sidelines too long though, especially after the performance by Josh McCown in Green Bay last night. The Bears seem to be in good hands with McCown under center if Cutler can't make it for this week's first-place showdown.

Think we just heard the competitive side Of Cutler before. No way this staff wants to rush him back & I think this change of direction means they've talked to him about it.

The importance of a competent back up qb is showcased here. The bears are staying in the hunt even though their qb went down

I've heard Cutler isn't even medically cleared to practice yet. With the way McCown is playing right now, I don't think it would be a bad thing if Cutler missed one more game.
