Chicago Bears coach Marc Trestman defended his decision to keep an obviously banged-up Jay Cutler on the field until the final drive of Sunday's 21-19 loss to the Detroit Lions. "I didn't want to take him out unless he felt he couldn't do the job," Trestman said after the game, per a team transcript. "He had, I thought, a very courageous performance throughout." Cutler came in on the tail end of a healing groin injury. He left with more bumps, bruises and a left ankle injury. Source: NFL.com markaz's Take: Defend away, Marc. Trestman made two extremely stupid decisions in this game and this is one of them. Cutler, although "courageous", struggled with his mechanics because of the groin injury and should have been pulled when Cutler repeatedly threw the ball into the ground short of his receivers. Just an overall bad decision-making game for Trestman.
I can't defend this decision by Trestman. To make matters even worse for yesterday, the running game was crap. It will be very interesting to see who starts at QB against the Ravens this coming sunday.
he admitted that he should have played mccown sooner but he only relented that it should have been one series sooner. for me, it was obvious he was having problems in the first half and after seeing the 3rd quarter, i would have yanked his butt.
he should have let mcnown play the 3rd and 4th quarter cause cutler's zip on his passes went down drastically.they have a better chance winning with him now until cutler heals.
I just heard that Cutler has a high ankle sprain and is week to week. I think the decision should be easy for Trestman to make in terms of who starts at QB against the Ravens this sunday after hearing that news on Cutler.
