Thanks to a broken collarbone on a run-of-the-mill sack, the Green Bay Packers are without Aaron Rodgers. Their rivals in the NFC North, the Chicago Bears, are without Jay Cutler thanks to a bum leg, which also wasn't the result of some sort of illegal hit. Source: Yahoo Sports ICECOLD's Take: What more can they do aside from put a non-contact jersey on them in the games? What really needs to happen is to fix what happens in offseason practices so all players get used to the hits they're going to take during the regular season
This is an absolute joke. What more can be done to protect the most protected person in all of sports without turning football into a mockery? Granted the QB is the highest paid and arguably the most important position, but that come with risks in a violent game. Because of some of the boneheaded rules the NFL has already instituted, the potential here is great to take the words 'pressure the quarterback' out of the football dictionary.
It's pretty sad now of days where a defender gets flagged for just giving a QB a love tap. I know offense is what sells the NFL but the current rules that favor the QB, a good chunk of them are a joke right now. I don't know what else the NFL can do to protect the QB.
That's just it. What can they do that won't make the game a joke? The headline really is misleading because the NFL isn't singling out the protection of QB's as a single discussion point, it's part of the NFL's annual discussion regarding all positions and other game topics to try to make the game more appealing. The fear is that they'll overdo it.....like for QB's.
I know what everyone is saying, but here are a couple of points that were in The Dallas Morning News today: 1. Of this week's 15 games, nine - 60 percent - feature a team that changed QBs because of injury. 2. Nine QBs are already on IR, the second-most through 10 weeks in any of the last 15 seasons. This is according to STATS.
Ok so the ridiculous rules they already have in place are making it worse, so naturally lets make new ridiculous rules to fix what the previous rules were supposed to fix but didn't. It's genius.
What a pile of crap! The NFL wants to protect QBs by tightening the rules, and the coaches find ways to put QBs in harms way by running new schemes like the read option. Stop messing with the rules and look at the facts.Coaches are paid to WIN and if they want to turn their QB into a running back then so be it.If the coach is willing to risk the health of his most pivotal player that's his problem,it's risk v reward. If the league doesn't like it then fine the coaches, not the Defenders!
