Penn State's Bill O'Brien, who came close to taking the Eagles job a year ago and was approached by several other teams, is ready to return to professional football, according to pro and college sources, and has already been approached by the Texans and Vikings. O'Brien struggled with the decision last year and ultimately felt he owed it to his players to stay at Happy Valley for a second season, but relations between him and the school frayed some when the school was subjected to more post-Sandusky sanctions than expected, and he also has had three staff members depart recently. His buyout is less financially restrictive than in past years, and, furthermore, there could be litigation over his buyout as well, if the situation escalates, given the penalties the program faced. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/writer...l-obrien-drawing-interest-from-vikings-texans
Agree Dawk. Love what he has done with the program considering what situation he was in when he took the job. Would hate to see him go.
Don't worry,it makes sense so the redskins will not do it. never knew kyle shanahan was such a he snitch diva with serious mangina issues.
Vikes are interested in him too. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/writer...l-obrien-drawing-interest-from-vikings-texans
As a PSU and cowboy fan this can never happen. If he leaves PSU I'm sure I will cry for days. He has started turning that football team around with some good recruits leaving now would hurt the school.
I can appreciate that, and for PSU I hope he stays, that program endured enough pain. But for the Redskins sake and for RG3's sake I hope the Redskins get him. He is by far my number 1 choice to replace Shanny.
looks like the post agrees with you lebanese.I Still prefer darrel bevell. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs...s-why-the-redskins-should-pursue-bill-obrien/
I Seriously Doubt he leaves penn state after just two seasons, especially after the scandal there before he replaced paterno.
It would be devastating to PSU but I think he will also look after himself and his pocket. I don't think it is a reach. For me, it's about a coach who can walk in to a place that is already facing a lot of adversity (media, fans, RG3, etc.) he did it with PSU he can do it with the Redskins.
I'd normally say that O'Brien is all but gone, but PSU knows what they've got in Jim O'Brien and will probably be more than willing to pony up against NFL offers. One thing O'Brien does know is there is far greater job security in State College vs. any NFL job.
Honestly, here's what I don't fully understand. These guys have marginal success in pretty mediocre conferences in college football. An NFL team calls and BAM! you're out. O'Brien should get PSU back into a National Title picture, make it a spot where recruits WANT to visit and win a few trophies before bolting. If I was a college coach I'd stick it out until my program was one of the top 5 in the NATION. The NFL is awesome but in the NCAA your players are hungry, the money has the potential to be MUCH greater if you can get your program to prominence and there are many more opportunities for greatness. The NFL is awesome if you're Nick Saban or Les Miles but if you're a Bill O'Brien, just stick it out at PSU.
