After catching 172 passes, 24 for touchdowns, from Peyton Manning in the past two seasons, receiver Eric Decker was a bit baffled that the Denver Broncos did not value his contributions enough to offer him a contract as a free agent this off-season. That is why Decker said he was so won over by the Jets' pitch for his services. In offering a five-year, $36.25 million contract and penciling him in as the No. 1 receiver, the Jets made him feel valued. "I'd say the New York Jets gave me the most respect," Decker said in a conference call Friday. "That's important to me. I want to be an asset to a team." Source: New York Times
I think he had 36.25 million reasons why? It was about the money. Can't really blame him. He wouldn't get that money from a contender and he knew it. Got to get that big payday before being shown the door.
the reason is money. But I am 100% sure other teams would have paid similar amounts (Carolina: cough cough) which leads me to believe the wife made her shopping case to Mr.Decker :)
Decker is a product of the Broncos system, ie, Peyton Manning spreading the ball around. No Manning, no big payday with the Jets. Jets showed him the most respect? Gotcha.
