According to Fox Sports, the Raiders will cut the quarterback Monday if they cannot swing a trade. As expected, one way or another, Pryor will not be part of the Raiders when the team opens up offseason workouts on Tuesday. NFL.com
Always good to announce you're going to cut a player if you can't trade them...always a bright idea...
Annnnnnnnnd you're absolutely right. http://www.ninersnation.com/2014/4/...-to-seahawks-49ers-reportedly-were-in-the-mix
I am in the camp of that doesn't seem right. Then I thought about it some more and it makes some sense. If you have a couple of teams wanting the guy and they don't want a bidding war if he gets cut then putting that out makes some sense. I never thought that it gave the team much of an advantage announcing that.
But for a player like Pryor...is it really a good idea? If Seahawks QB T. Pryor makes team, he will make $705,000; This season, Russell Wilson will make $662,434. Via @SportsTaxMan. Probably could've signed him for less...no?
hell yes. probably the league minimum for someone with his "experience". Didn't think much of him in college and he hasn't shown anything in the pros.
There wouldnt have been a bidding war, he would have been claimed on waivers, and if you're a team like Seattle or SF who are sitting at the bottom of the waiver list and wouldnt have a chance at him, then it makes a ton of sense to trade for him. Especially if it's something like a 6th or seventh rounder.
I thought one of the teams who's looking at college QBs would have been well served to take a flyer on him. A team like the Texans could have coached him up, you can't teach his kind of athleticism.
