The U.S. Patent Office has canceled six trademarks belonging to the Washington Redskins football team, saying they are offensive to Native Americans.

In a decision released today, the office's Trademark Trial and Appeal Board ruled that the "that these registrations must be canceled because they were disparaging to Native Americans."

The board also said it lacked the authority to prevent the team from continuing to use the trademarks.

 

So we can go out and start selling crap with the Redskins logo? Let's do it!!

I think this is getting annoying. If you want to ban the Redskins name, fine. But also go ahead and ban the Indians, Seminoles, and all other native american names in professional and college sports.

Just curious...Did the patent office do the same to the Chicago Blackhawks, Cleveland Indians, or Florida State University?

...While they're on their moral high horse, why not cancel the trademarks for the Cowboys, Patriots, Yankees and Buccaneers.
Let's throw in the Saints, Angels, Padres, Blue Devils, Demons, and Sun Devils so that appeases the anti-religion crowd.
We'll finish by canning the Dolphins, Cardinals, Cubs, Huskies, and Penguins to make the PETA zealots happy.
