I decided to try my hand at the Upside Down Strategy mock, or similar to it, as discussed here.

I was pick 7, which is what I am in one of my leagues. I chose to wait even longer on RB than the article however.

    07) Jimmy Graham TE
    14) Dez Bryant WR
    27) Alshon Jeffery WR
    34) Ben Tate RB
    47) Roddy White WR
    54) Toby Gerhart RB
    67) Joique Bell RB
    74) Bishop Sankey RB
    87) Terrance Williams WR
    94) Matt Ryan QB
    107) Hakeem Nicks WR
    114) Tony Romo QB
    127) C.J. Anderson RB
    134) Andre Williams RB
    147) Chiefs D/ST D/ST
    154) Mason Crosby K

I would be happy with this team had it been a real draft.

yes indeed.. not real high on Ben Tate - make me nervous - Terrance West breathing down his neck plus he's on a horrible team that sure to be behind in most games.

Clearly you didn't know you'd have:

    54) Toby Gerhart RB
    67) Joique Bell RB
    74) Bishop Sankey RB

    All waiting for you =)

    Nice mock...

I've done this several times as I am drafting 7th this year in 2 of my leagues.

I like this strategy a lot

I don't like the Tate pick. But like KURT said, you got a lot of value with Gerhart, Bell, Sankey and Williams. Not sure about Anderson. He just suffered a concussion and was already behind Hillman. He could be your first waiver throw away.

Nicks could be another throw away. He's been having a terrible camp.

Overall, however, this is still a good draft. Lots of good value.

Glad to see the model in action, as the strategy fits excellent for your #7 draft slot.

One thing to mention here with UDD, is what I call "Key Identifiers" and how to recognize them fast--and when to use a Plan B option. One example of a Key Identifier would be if owners in your league reach for QB early in the first two completed rounds of your draft. While every mock or real draft are completely different; Peyton, A-Rod or Brees in some mocks are going way too early, and this can change your Upside Down Drafting strategy quickly; should you see this trend happening before your eyes.

Obviously if your preseason ranked, highly sought out runners slide down your way due to other owners grabbing QB’s early, great! Make your Plan B decision with your gut, but overall just realize that this "key identifier" simply means more “Late” drafted Runners will fall to you should you stick with UDD. The hardest part of this model is trusting the system all the way through, but keeping a sharp eye for drafting trends is also key, so hopefully your league mates take QB’s early! While you gather perhaps the best damn Wide Receiver core your league mates have quite possibly ever seen assembled.

Just saying, as you mock--be prepared for anything, your real draft never goes exactly like you planned it.

Question for you regarding this. I am in league where QB's are valued.

I am in a league where I am going to be using this. I am at #7 and this has been my strategy for quite some time now.

My league values QB big time. it's 6 pts per TD and bonuses at 300 and 400. (5, 10, respetivly)

DO I grab Brees in round 2 or do I wait till round 4 and reach for Matt Ryan. (He won't last till 5)

Completely different animal with bonus structure, and espically QBs obtaining "6 Sigma" points for a Tug. I notice your avatar shows RG3, curious where would you plan on taking him? With your league settings of course? In my opinion, he's in for an amazing year!

    86WARD -

I'd be happy with my team and have considered runnin this way as well...but I was thinking of doing it at 5. Jimmy Graham may be a keeper in my league though...so the idea may be blown up...unless I started with a Calvin Johnson.

My intention was to go with CJ, but the guy at 6 took him, and I didn't like the idea of Lynch. I didn't go into the draft completely sold on trying this, but when I took Graham in the first I figured what the hell.
