Collective strikeout rate: 31.3% Worst in MLB by a mile. Collective BA: .194. Worst in MLB by 20 points. Collective OPS: .600 The entire Mariners line up is batting like a bunch of back-up catchers. How is this team in 1st place? How did they make it even worse than last year? I'm starting to think about joining the chorus and start demanding for Jerry DiPoto (GM) to be fired. The hitting coach was already fired. Next is the manager, I guess... A GM named Jerry, huh?...that's my curse.
Well, The M's exploded for 7 runs last night in San Diego. Julio went 4 for 4. Cal hit two HRs. It was almost exactly as it was designed back in the winter. Julio gets on base, Cal brings him home, rinse repeat. The bad part is that after good games like this, usually 2 or 3 bad ones are next...
The Mariners swept the 2-game series against a very good San Diego team. First one with a rare offensive performance and the second one with the old recipee. Elite pitching and just enough on offense to make it throgh. Andres Muñoz got his MLB leading 6th save of more than 3 outs...too bad he doesn't play for the Yankees, right? Now we open a 4-game series against the Angels before the break. Anything less than a sweep would be disappoiting but let's just go win this series and go get some rest. Goms.
Anything less than a 4 game sweep would be disappointing? It's extremely difficult to sweep any team in 4. You are rough on your boys...lol.
See? This is what I'm talking about!! M's thrashed the angels 11-0 in game 1. Cal Raleigh hit two HRs, one from each side of the plate, for the third time in his career and second time this week. Julio is getting hotter and hotter. JP and Polanco are finally, mercifully getting out of their collective slumps. Everything is good again. Of course...it was just the stinkin' Angels. A high school team could beat them, so I don't know...yes, I'm exaggerating. I hate them.
I saw the score this morning and laughed to myself. My only beef with the Angles is that Trout wouldn't leave them to come home to Philly.
Andres Muñoz has been added to the AL All-Star team. My campaing of complaining about it in a forum only 3 people visit worked brilliantly. There is justice in this world after all. Faith in humanity restored.
After winning game 1 11-0, we lost the next 3 games by one run. I can't believe we lost a 4 game series to a AA team. But we're still in 1st place at the break and it's all that matters. The weekend series against the Astros might be the most important of the season. In draft news, the Mariners took a switch pitcher in the 1st round. Yes, you read that right. A switch pitcher. No idea how that would work or if it's even allowed but it could be interesting in the not so far future. Maybe a bullpen arm that can play every day, or a starter who can play every 2 or 3 days instead of 5. So many possibilities...
In the sixth round, the Mariners took two-way player, RHP/C (!!!) Grant Knipp. Knipp has been up to 97 off the mound and hit 18 homers before pulling his hamstring this season. INTERESTING. Everyone is looking for the new Ohtani.
I was in Washington state this week for work. On a couple of occasions I spoke with Mariners fans. They were both surprised how much I knew about the Mariners. It's all thanks to this thread haha.
Glad I can be of service The break is over! Baseball is back today. Mariners open a critical series against the Astros. Win it and increase the lead, lose it and lose the lead...it was 10 games a month ago. 10.
Since beating them 11-0 10 days ago, the Mariners have now lost the last 4 against the Angels. 3 of those with blown leads in the 8th or 9th innings. FML. Tied with Houston for the series lead but feels like we're 25 games behind.
When it rains, it pours. J.P. Crawford and Julio Rodriguez, cornerstones of the worst offense in baseball are hading to the IL. Ty France was an all-star 2 years ago. He was DFA'd today. We have a top 5 farm system in baseball. Time to put it to the test and see if it can save the season.
Make that 6 straight losses against the Angels. Mariners got swept for the first time this season. The division lead is officially gone, Astros won today. Our two best players are on the IL. They couldn't even hit beach balls at this point. It's over. And on my birthday XD.
Randy Arozarena, the hero of team Mexico in last year's WBC, and my favorite non-Mariners player is now my favorite Mariners player...and he hasn't taken an AB for us yet. M's traded for Randy last night...saw the news right as I was going to bed. Just when I was ready to quit on the season they do this. They pulled me right back in. The only problem is that he was having a subpar year, but suddenly turned it on the past couple of weeks. We only gave up two prospects and not the top ones, but knowing the Rays at least one of them will become an all-star in a few years lol. Cuban born, but Mexican. Like my grandma (who married an exiled spaniard) used to say: "us mexicans are born wherever the f*ck we want".
A lot of Phillies fans were upset that the Phils didn’t make an effort for him since the M’s got him so cheap. Good for you that he’s a player you like so much. Hopefully he sparks them.
Mariners acquired Yimi Garcia, reliefe pitcher from the Blue Jays for two other not top prospects. That's 2 players I have acquired in my MLB The Show Franchise that they have got in real life. Maybe I should be the GM now.
