No Cowboys talk in the Super Bowl thread. I refuse. Let's start the offseason one even though the Eagles are not there yet, but I want to talk about the press conference to introduce Shottenheimer (man, is that hard to write) as head coach. Jerry took the first question and has been talking about himself for the past 30 minutes or so. And of course he hasn't answered the question. Look, I know I'm stuck here. I have no hope for this team's future in whatever life I have remaining. So let's hope Shott is the second coming of Doug Pederson or something. A coach that excited nobody when he was hired, had fans quitting the team (you know it's true, Dawk) and ended up surprising everyone. Of course, those Eagles had probably the best GM in the league so it's clearly not the same. Let's see how he does, I expect absolutely nothing, anyway. As for needs for the offseason we have a lot in OL, RB, need a second WR to complement Ceedee and maybe another TE. The defense looks set, with only interior line help and LB depth needed, as long as the free agent DBs come back...I don't know. Next season sounds horrible already. Let's see how it goes.
Apparently Kellen Moore interviewed with the Saints last night. I hope he doesn't take their HC job. It would be nice if he stayed so there can be a little consistency for Hurts and the offense in consecutive years.
You can't expect to make it to the Super Bowl consistently and keep all your coordinators and coaching staff. It's the price to pay for being successful.
Looks like Kellen Moore to New Orleans as new Head Coach is a done deal, to be announced as soon as Monday, probably. Tuesday if the Eagles win?
Disappointing that Moore will be leaving. I have no idea who the Eagles will bring in to replace him, but that's a subject for about 10 days from now.
Myles Garrett has asked the Browns to be traded. That would be perfect for the Eagles. It would fill a position of need and we’ve got a lot of draft capital
I know a bunch of Lions fans and I couldn't not use my platform to let them express their misery. Detroit Lions fans sound off - Sports Chump
It also looks like Cooper Kupp will be traded. He started to regress this year so the Rams might have to eat a chunk of his salary to make it happen. He can still be a solid #2 WR behind Lamb, but...you know...the Joneses...
A former Cowboys assistant/coordinator that was passed on for promotion has been hired by the Saints as their new Head Coach. Just like Sean Payton almost 20 years ago, it's now Kellen Moore. If history repeats itself, I swear to God...
Salary cap is projected to be in the range of 280 million dollars. In related news, the Saints remain 80 million over the cap and Jerry Jones is ready to use it as an excuse for the 30th straight year.
Zack Martin has announced he's retiring from the NFL. That's your first member of the Hall of Fame class of 2030 right there. Nothing but respect. He'll be missed.
I'm a little disappointed that the Eagles named Kevin Patullo as the new offensive coordinator. I was hoping they brought in someone from outside of the organization to get fresh eyes on the offense. Then again, nobody really knows what Patullo's philosphy will be. I hope he works out long term. I would like Hurts to have some stability.
My favorite story about Martin is about the day he was drafted. Yes, even I was mad about it at the time, but that's why I'm still managing database servers and not professional football teams. Jerry wanted Johnny Manziel in the 2014 draft. Then Martin fell to their spot and Will McClay, still the top scout or something at the time, pounded the table about him. He was their guy. He convinced Stephen who then overruled Jerry and the Cowboys took Martin. When it turned out to be the right decision, Jerry tried to take the credit, and how a "good eye" he has for talent. He wanted Manziel...and word says he had to be restrained.
Final number, made official today, is 279 million. That missing million is all the excuse they need xD
The 49ers have traded Deebo Samuel to the Commanders for a 5th round pick, per Adam Schefter. Seems like San Francisco is preparing to pay Purdy. I both love and hate this move because the 49ers get worse, but Washington gets better.
I feel the same way. I really wish it wasn’t Washington that he is going to. Samuel and McLaurin is hell of a combo.
In a rare early offseason move, the Cowboys extended DT Osa Odighizuwa. Hey, look!! No copy paste!! 4 years 80 million when the franchise tag for the position was around 21 million looks nice. Jerry actually convinced someone to take a discount "for the brand". 58 million guaranteed so apparently only the first two years. I'm starting to take the players side in these negotiations. I think Osa could've got more but good for him, and good for the Cowboys cap. Solid move, I guess...
Eagles will be releasing Slay and Bradberry. Seeing Slay go kind of sucks but at his age and having young replacements, I would do the same. There is still a small chance that he could come back, but it would be at a highly discounted rate, so not very likely.
And the Eagles have extended Saquon Barkley. 2 years, 36 million guaranteed. Well deserved. (So was Zeke's 6 years ago, but it was 5 years, not 2 so...yeah).
