49ers QB Alex Smith Predits 'Double-Digit' Win Season

You'll recall that Lions quarterback Jon Kitna says his team will win more than 10 games this year, even though they are, in fact, the Detroit Lions, and they've never even won seven games in a year in the Matt Millen era. Now another quarterback is getting in on the act. Reporter Jim Trotter said on ESPN2's First Take this morning that 49ers quarterback Alex Smith told him that the team's win total this season would be "in the double digits." That's a fairly bold statement coming from the quarterback whose team has won just nine of his 23 career starts. But while I remain extremely skeptical of Kitna's prediction, I wouldn't rule out Smith being right here. Unlike the Lions, the 49ers have shown real signs that the young talent they've acquired is starting to congeal into a respectable football team. Ten wins is a lofty goal for the 49ers, but it's not an unreasonable one, and while Kitna strikes me as absurdly overconfident, Smith just strikes me as confident.

If we're going to win double digits, Smith needs to play a lot better.

 

Why do QB's always feel the need to open mouth and insert foot?

 

I think the Niners are more ready to make a playoff push then the Lions, but I don't know about double digit wins though. Theres always atleast one suprise team during the season.

 

Smith just couldn't leave well enough alone, just go out there and win the games, you don't have to predict anything, let your play talk..

 

He must be drinking Jon Kitna's kool aid.

No reason to be down in the doldrums about your season before it's even started surely?

Saying you have faith in your team to come up big this season is one thing, predicting and guaranteeing wins is totally different..ALEX, SHUT UP!!

 

Kitna & Smith must buy from the same dealer. He must have some of that fire!

I hope he's been misquoted.

 

If Smith is confident in it, what's wrong with saying it out loud? Bolster some team pride and drum up fan support for the upcoming season... That's where he wants to be and a lot can be said for a confident QB.
