If Thomas Jones plays like 100%, he can tear apart some Run defenses! He's a great power runner. Led the Bears to the SB, also prevented the Bears O from sucking.:icon_cool: He will play against the Pats this week. And I really hope he plays like he's 100%.:icon_cool:

The Jets and the Patriots have always been natural rivals, but their competition has reached a new level over the past decade. Rookie linebacker David Harris played his college football at Michigan, so he knows something about rivalries.

The whole year was pretty much dedicated to that last game, even though we had other games," Harris said. "Every day, we always had Ohio State in the back of my minds. It's college football at its best. Its a great rivalry that started with two great coaches Bo [Schembechler] and Woody [Hayes]. There is a lot of history and tradition behind it. Its the biggest game of the year every season.

Harris first professional game will come Sunday against the Patriots at the Meadowlands. The 62, 243-pounder wont start, but hell contribute on special teams and hes also

We had their number until that year. That year they beat us, Harris said of Michigans 23-20 defeat on Oct. 8, 2005. It was the first time they beat us since 1986. They took the Brown Jug from us. They had a good running game and were one of the top five rushing offenses every year in the NCAA. They have a good zone scheme and [Maroney] had like 120 on us. He is a good explosive running back who runs hard.

Maroneys rush total was 129 yards on 36 carries as the
Brady, who cut back on his throwing in the summer and has been listed on the injury report this week with a sore right shoulder, is also a Michigan product. He ran into Harris when the 'backer made a visit to Foxboro prior to the draft.

On paper, the Jets and the Patriots should be a close matchup. It wouldnt be a shock if either team won. They split the regular-season series last year and both made quality acquisitions in the off-season. The NFL doesnt have great upsets, but all the former Wolverines can only look back to last weekend at Appalachian State as an example of what a team can do when its well-prepared and executes the game
But college ball is in the back of Harris mind now. He conducted an interview following a brief on-field rookie meeting with Jerome Henderson. The director of player development was telling the group what is expected of them in terms of dress business attire will be required before the game.

And then theres plenty of business for Harris to attend to come Sunday afternoon.

There will be close to 80,000 in the stands Sunday for the Jets and Patriots. The Green & White havent won at home in this series since 2000 and thats the last time someone other than Tom Brady was starting at quarterback for New England.

I feel a lot better than I felt the past couple of weeks.

Thomas Jones is ready for his first taste of the Jets-Patriots rivalry.

Whether that comes on the playing field still appears to be a game-time decision, but New York's star running back remained optimistic Friday about the progress of his strained right calf.

'I'm feeling a lot better,' Jones said Friday, reiterating his comments from earlier in the week.

Jones was injured during drills on Aug. 12 and hadn't practiced again until this week.

'The trainers have done a great job of getting me back on the practice field and getting me to go through some drills and things like that,' he said. 'So, we'll see how I feel on Sunday.'

The New York Jets ought to feel confident before kickoff Sunday. Thats because theyll either have Mike Nugent or Justin Miller playing a prominent role on the games first play. After a couple of years struggling with the depth on his kickoffs, Nugent built up his leg strength in the off-season and delivered three touchbacks in preseason play. If you get a touchback as a kicker, then thats what you want. But the biggest thing Im trying to do is give my guys a chance, my teammates a chance, said Nugent, now an Ohio State alum. Give them a chance to get down there and make a tackle. I dont give them much of a chance if I kick the ball to the 12-yard-line with a 3.8[-second] hang time. If I can give them a good hang and good distance, then that will give them a chance to get down there and make the play. Nugent converted on 88.5 percent of his field goal attempts last season and hes bringing a regular-season streak of 18 consecutive makes into the opener, but he knew there was room for improvement on his kickoffs. It was one of my bigger off-season goals. Whatever happened positively in the preseason, you have to be able to carry it over to the regular season, he said. You have to go out there and do the exact same thing and make sure you stay consistent with what you do. Millers consistency landed him in Hawaii last February as the Jets' lone representative at the Pro Bowl. He averaged 28.3 yards per kick return and hes also scored three touchdowns off kicks in the past 17 regular-season games. While in Hawaii, Miller was named the NFLs "Fastest Man" for a performance in a four man 40-yard dash. Hed like to outrun the Patriots this weekend and may even be used as a punt returner. The 23-year-old corner fielded six punts his rookie season. I am comfortable, he said when asked about possible punt duty. Whatever job is needed from me, I am going to go out there and do it. I am just going to go out there and help the team at whatever position it takes. In addition to Miller, there are a number of candidates who could return punts for the Jets and that list includes rookie CB Darrelle Revis and RB Leon Washington. With Laurence Maroney concentrating full-time on his role as the Patriots' top tailback, former Dolphin Wes Welker and Ellis Hobbs are the Pats top two returners. Now in his fourth pro season, Welker averaged 22.2 yards per kickoff return in Miami last season. The goal for Nugent will be to kick it out of the end zone or deliver kicks with at least four seconds of hang time.

The loss is not Pennington's fault, it's the o-line's. I'm just heckin pissed the Jets FO is heckin cheap and couldn't give Kendal the money and couldn't pay up at least for one big name d-lineman (cough Adalius Thomas cough). I don't think our season is over yet, because they were playing the best team in the NFL, but they still played like crap.

I'm worried? No, my team had a better performance against a better team, and surprised the hell out of the world by actually having a defense. I just enjoy seeing a Patriots loss, and I'm upset the Jets didn't provide that for me today. Not surprised but upset. Next week, I'm expecting to see one. Beat those guys convincingly, and I might be worried.

No, no one with half a brain bet on the Jets, but that doesn't mean I still can't root for the upset. It happened in Foxboro last year. Mangenius did have some tricks up his sleeve, but none so effective to cover up the disappearing pass rush he was provided by his defense. Of course Moss had a big game, he had forever and a day to get open.

Thanks, for the congrats though, the level of the defensive performance even surprised me. I expected them to be better than most did, but not that good.
