this is an excellent article...... NFL buffoons leaving terrible legacy You get one NFL Truth today. Watching Chad Johnson and Larry Johnson undermine their respective head coaches, Marvin Lewis and Herm Edwards, on Sunday gave me a singular focus, forced me to contemplate an uncomfortable truth. African-American football players caught up in the rebellion and buffoonery of hip hop culture have given NFL owners and coaches a justifiable reason to whiten their rosters. That will be the legacy left by Chad, Larry and Tank Johnson, Pacman Jones, Terrell Owens, Michael Vick and all the other football bojanglers. In terms of opportunity for American-born black athletes, they're going to leave the game in far worse shape than they found it. It's already starting to happen. A little-publicized fact is that the Colts and the Patriots — the league's model franchises — are two of the whitest teams in the NFL. If you count rookie receiver Anthony Gonzalez, the Colts opened the season with an NFL-high 24 white players on their 53-man roster. Toss in linebacker Naivote Taulawakeiaho "Freddie" Keiaho and 47 percent of Tony Dungy's defending Super Bowl-champion roster is non-African-American. Bill Belichick's Patriots are nearly as white, boasting a 23-man non-African-American roster, counting linebacker Tiaina "Junior" Seau and backup quarterback Matt Gutierrez. now you know why i hate rap. it's not the music, it's the culture. the "hip hop lifestyle" makes me want to pop a cap in my own butt.
I'd like to see a stat on how many black athletes didn't even get a chance to hit the Pros, because they got kicked off of their college teams.
The 'hip-hop lifestyle' is what is dragging down a lot of athletes not just in the NFL but NBA and MLB as well. But the truth is that some of the conditions these players went through growing up haven't been overcome. A prime example is Pacman Jones who still holds his 'posse/boys' close and even after repeated trouble they got him into still hasn't seen the light. Another is Vick. Who doesn't know what their friends are doing. These guys have so many old friends let alone new ones that get them into trouble that they don't even have a clue as to what is going on IMO.
Sad part is it doesn't have anything to do with color of someones skin. It has everything to do with the lifestyle they choose to live by. People have a right to make choices in their lives and do the right things. Doesn't matter what race, creed or color you are....doesn't matter how much money you make or don't make you choose....
Exactly Olly...I like some rap, does that mean that I'm a worse employee then someone who listens to country western music...stupid comparison, it's not the music you listen to. Let us know when the can goes off Cheezy..lol
... but I shoot a man at Reno, just to watch him die ..... nah, these lyrics are not from Snoop or 2Pac, it's Johnny Cash.
It's 'I shot a man in Reno'...:icon_cheesygrin: But I agree, it's not the music you listen to, it's the choices you make in your life. LJ, CJ, and the others mentioned in the article are selfish ME players, not TEAM players.
Hip hop promotes that style of life, thats the freaking problem...I hate all these punks who go around acting like their thugs singing Mac Dre and trying to mimic his vocalized actions...its pathetic.... fact is...the league should be more white...the league is just evening itself out...everyone jumped on the "black atheletes are better" bandwagon and a lot of talented white skill players were left on the cutting blocks....now its starting to get where it should be...more diverse..with everyone getting a shot to prove themselves...the bad thug atheletes, white or black, will always weed themselves out through their actions..I don't believe it has anything to do with them being black, just they way they choose to carry themselves (and yes, hip hop is a bad influence in a lot of ways for some of these younger guys, both white and black from what i've seen, Jason Williams anyone?)..considering the league is still full of a majority of black atheletes who carry the game and themselves with diginity/respect.. Anyone who chooses to ignore the impact musical culture has is blind as heck...you see it everyday...
you forgot to mention video games, TV, movies, other media as well...... ...and what is pathetic too, is to blame it on a single type of music, just bc you didn't like it. There are other Hip-Hop artists, that do not provide this kind of livestyle, but rock musicans they did it too.
wow since when id gonzalez and guiterrez white.......but imo rap does promote a certian way of living that many people choose to mimic and that gets them into trouble and other enjoy the music yet live a normal life with out ever getting into trouble its just as someone already said its the choices that they make
I see you chose to ignore my last line in that post...."Anyone who chooses to ignore the impact musical culture has is blind as heck...you see it everyday..." its technically rap...artists like Mos Def are hip hop, and that guy is a great artist, and his messages are decent... and who said I didn't like the whole genre? some of the music is good..Jurassic 5 for instance..Outkast....are just a few that I enjoy listening too..but when a majority (95%) are garbage then the rest get lost under all the heaps of trash left behind..
Call me old or whatever you want but I left that stuff behind not all that long ago. Meaning....I really don't listen to Rock or hip-hop music any more. I don't need it as a part of my life and I "choose" not to be a part of it. I will not judge what other people do because I did it in the past but if they "choose" to be a part of a culture that promotes the wrong ideas and values they will suffer along with that culture when things go wrong. I chose to leave a those things behind and anyone can do the same thing. It isn't the music....it isn't the race of a person it's the culture that they live in and choices they make. The culture they surround themselves with will have an influence on the choices they make but they can still choose not to do the wrong things but it definitely makes it harder when you are in the lifestyle. Hope that made sense and didn't sound too judgemental.
Yes, No This is exactly my standpoint old man :icon_mrgreen: It's the culture and the surrounding society. You always have two ways to choose. The right and the wrong one.
lol my god that is so true i cant even understand them rappers some sing so fast im like wtf are they on
yeah, it's true, rock and country music is just as bad, that's you have shootings at their award show just like in rap. that's why you have guys like garth brooks sending his posse over to bust a cap in keith urban. that's why the guys in korn did a drive-by shooting on SOAD.
