The eagles in the last 8 years have been one of the best franchises in the nfl and we shouldnt have to overpay we are still a top franchise in the league next year we will pick up on our game and maybe with the addition of a roy williams or javon walker and if we had someone at tightend like dallas clarkwe could be one of those teams when we were when we went to the superbowl a few years back i really think we can do it.

yes, the eagles were overall the best "nfc" team in the league for the last eight years but they failed to win a super bowl and in dramatic fashion at that. now the organization is getting a rep as one that is full of themselves and really doesn't get high ratings from the players.

add to that this city has a media that is a pack of vultures that relentlessly goes after our athletes and after they help run them out of town tyurns the blame solely on the fanbase.

watch as the reporters (take names) attack mcnabb as they have for two years now turn around after he's gone and things aren't going good write stories about how the fans here run good players out of town.

That is so totally going to happen. If some think things are bad now, wait until #5 is gone.

Though I agree things will get worse when he leaves, I don't think keeping him around is the right thing to do. The fans and media have been a little too harsh on him, but lately I think he deserves it. Early in his career I would have defended this guy about anything, but recently he's become way too outspoken for me. I respected the McNabb that took the criticism, kept it to himself, and showed how he felt out on the field. I can't respect a player that does more talking than walking, and that's what he's become.
The offense isn't clicking with him back there, that's been made obvious the last couple of games. Sure he doesn't have the receivers to put up the big numbers he used to, and I know Kevin Kolb isn't the (at least immediate) answer, but I think it is time to move on. Get a draft pick or two for him and bring in a receiver and some defensive players. We saw Sunday, and in so many of our recet successful seasons, how much more a good defense can mean as compared to a good quarterback.
I'll admit that the couple of long runs he put up last week brought back good memories and made me realize that I will miss the guy. He's certainly a player I will give a standing ovation to in his first game back in Philadelphia (and hopefully the majority of the fans agree with me and will do so). His last couple of years have been nightmarish, he's picked up the titles of choker, injury prone, and mama's boy along the way, but let's ot forget he's taken this team through some of it's most prosperous years. In a league conducive to teams quickly rising and falling, we got to see our team play deep into the playoffs year after year, largely in part to #5. Sure many of the years ended in D-Mac interceptions and resulting heartbreak, but if you can't take heartbreak and appreciate the journey, you're not a true Philadelphia fan. I'll miss the guy, but we've got a talented core here with a great attitude about playing hard and winning. It's time to factor out the pieces that aren't working and plug in some young guys for the future. Here's hoping the best for both sides.

Sorry about the novel, sometimes I don't know when to stop.
...on a less serious note: How bout dem cowboys?:icon_cool: :icon_cheesygrin:

i hear you here burnout, i agree a portion of the fanbase has been harsh to mcnabb but what fanbase doesn't have a group that never sees good in the team/players. our issue is that our portion happens to be the ones that call WIP all of the time.

reid could've done better by mcnabb by putting him in a system that better fit his talents. you saw what mcnabb could do when the talent is there to go verticle.

as much as i hate to say it, the time is here for dmac to go. it may not be this offseason but he will not be around after 08.

dawk - you know it bro, the media is going to blame us and act like they have been backing mcnabb forever if he rolls and wins elsewhere. they do it now with owens.

Mcnabb will win elsewhere and it going to really piss me off because andy reid couldnt provide mcnabb with big named targets nobody can play great with bad widerecievers he needs alot more talent on this offence besides westbrook cant do it all or can he?

I think McNabb will be back next season, but that will probably be his last unless he comes back really healthy and successful.

How would you guys feel about Stallworth coming back? I personally would love it. We saw how well he and McNabb clicked, and it really helps the other receivers out too. Neither Curtis or Brown are #1's we've unfortunately learned. I am so disappointed in the regression that Brown took.

I would love to have Stallworth back. Curtis is fast, but he is nowhere near the deep threat Stallworth was. The only thing that scares me is that we never seem to catch a break with injury prone players. I'd also like to see us grab DeSean Jackson in the draft. He could help fill two major holes and make an impact right away (unlike most rookie receivers).

Yeah i we need a real number one reciever and if we have curtis, brown, and stallworth i dont see a number 1 reciever out of any of them but maybe if we can get desean jackson could be a future 1 reciever but we need somebody right now that can be the number 1 reciever if we want to win with mcnabb hes going to need a roy williams mcnabb works better with bigger recievers.

dawk, i'm 100% with you on stallworth. i wanted him back. crap, look at how he helped brown and baskett last year. curtis is a definite upgrade from baskett, this group would've been nasty.

but still, not having a good steady te has really hurt this offense as well. especially considering how much mcnabb has been cfreaking down from the wr's all to often. the only guy there is westbrook. he needs a te that can get open in that middle zone. schoebel is nice but can't get open against good lb's or safeties enough. celek may be that guy someday but right now he can not block worth a crap and is a liability if a blitz is coming from his side.

the eagles are going to have money to spend next year. USE IT ! give your system the talent it needs to succeed. go sign dallas clark, go get roy williams or chad johnson, or stallworth and then get a good wideout in the draft. (who is the kid from indiana ?)

also, go get dawkins' replacement. i love the guy, my all-time favorite eagle, but the man is winding down. not sure if mikel and reed are the answers. oh and heck considine.

the other spot that has to be looked at is cb, lito is starting to be a player that has nagging injuries every year.

    burnout2oo7 I Am Dawk's Broken Heart

I agree that TE needs to be a primary concern in free agency, and I believe the Eagles will go after someone, but I don't see Clark leaving Indy.

I like Mikell as a nickelback, but like you said, he won't help our soon-to-be secondary woes. Dawkins replacement will surely come out of this next draft, I'm guessing first day, but there are some nice DBs on the market to fill our other holes. I'd like to see the Birds go after a guy like Mike Doss who's a good run stopper, but his injuries are a big concern. Trufant is probably looking to get out of Seattle, but I doubt Reid's ready to break up the Brown-Sheppard duo yet, and Trufant will certainly be looking for a starting spot.

i would love to have trufant instead of sheppard just because of how much lito gets injured trufant is a definite upgrade over sheppard but it wont happen trufant probably wants some serious money so it defeinetly wont happen.

James williams is going to be a free agent after this season and we probably wont resign him so a new 3rd or 4th cornerback for the eagles but after this great win against the saints i still think we need another widereciever to the no.1 spot curtis is a great no.2 but we need a really big home run hitter and we could be great at that position but overall a great win by the eagles they scored very good and look as if they were hitting on all cylinders.

I think you mean William James lol.

As for yesterday's game, I was quite surprised on how well the offense played yesterday. Still not sure about some of the components on defense though. But I do like our linebacking core going into the future. I think Bradley is going to be a playmaker on this defense and will eventually take over for Spikes. Gocong seems to get better every game and I think Gaither, Bradley and Gocong could be a nice trio.

I would like to see Abiamiri play more this weekend to see what he can offer. Max Gene Gillis seemed to hold his own. I would also like to see Winston Justice get another chance because Thomas isn't going to be around forever.

I don't really care if the team doesn't give Hunt any carries. Buckhalter is playing nicely and I do hope he stays next year.

McNabb did what he used to when he needed to make a play. HE RAN and ran well, except for the fumble recovered by Curtis. He held onto the ball too long again, but not as bad.

I really hope this team doesn't think Celek is the future at TE. He's ok, but not a playmaker. And I do agree that we need a playmaking receiver. That will be the biggest NEED that the fans want. Curtis is nice, and yes he has a 1,000 yards, but he isn't a guy who McNabb can rely on to make a difference.

I just pray that this team isn't taking these wins and thinking that we are fine with what we have. Just a tweak here and there. Even if we do beat Buffalo, this is still an 8-8 team.

Opps yea i meant william suckass james i would love to see the eagles bring in a playmaker on offense and as you said i hope the eagles dont think celeks the future a TE he is a alright player but just doesnt look like a number.1 TE he could be a awesome number 2 our main needs are WR,TE,S,CB in no particular order thats what we should focus on in the draft and free agency and some people may make a case about that LE spot but other than that we are pretty stocked a every position unless they try to find new replacements of the future for jon runyan. If we get a playmaker for mcnabb he could be awesome next year but i just dont see reid doing it do you.

Of all the things Reid said in his press conference today, this line scares the crap out of me:

"When completely healthy, we can matchup with anyone in the league."

    Yikes

Very scary quote, but I don't think that means we'll be completely passive come free agency. We're in prime position to improve ourselves in the offseason so that we can be playing come January next year and I think Reid will go after a big name player to do so.
