I know, I merely overreacted with the 'stuff' that's gone on, but I am able to say that the news from Yahoo is in fact 100% legit. I just either get my info from the news or the newspaper, I don't watch ESPN or the other sporting channels because the 49ers are like a 5 second highlight reel, that's it for the day, let's move on to the other team, or they talk about the other sports that I just don't have an interest in. I'm Ok with GS Warriors, but I don't see them as champions just yet and same goes with San Jose Sharks. The football in general is just exciting, especially to take a Superbowl to just 3 points. Plus I'm feeling a little down after our season of hope went down the toilet. I know all teams suffer along the way, but it's a bad retread. The 49ers are a lot better then this...if the Giants can clean up their act and establish themselves as a contender, I can't see why the 49ers can't do that. Like Peyton, Eli got an Oline and some WRs to throw to, and the giants D, to send 4 men all game long to harrass Brady is the type of defense i've been looking for for years on the 49ers, to get a pass rush like that from 4 players, why bother with 3-4? The 49ers are better off looking at what made the Giants a contender? Despite some of the reputation on Eli, Eli did what it took to win the game. Burress, Steve Smith, David Tyree, Toomer were the go to WRs. We have the running in Frank Gore. The Giants D manned up, learned from the mistakes against New England previously. Fix the oline, get some established WRs with either our group/FA/draft, build 4 tough defenders on defense and I think the 49ers can finally get above .500. http://gridironfans.com/forums/showthread.php?p=334591#post334591 ALso from the Sac Bee: February 04, 2008 Nathan named RBs coach The 49ers named former Dolphins running back Tony Nathan as their running backs coach today, thus rounding out their assistant coaching staff. The top choice for the position, Wilbert Montgomery, took a job with the Baltimore Ravens last week. Nathan, who spent nine seasons as a running back with the Dolphins, began his coaching career in 1988 in Miami. He also has coached in Tampa Bay, at Florida International University and spent the last two seasons as the Ravens' running backs coach. The team also announced that it has promoted Trent Baalke to director of player personnel where he will oversee the team's college and pro personnel departments. Baalke had been the team's scout for the Southwest region. Baalke was the Washington Redskins' college scouting coordinator in 2004 before joing the 49ers in 2005. -- Matt Barrows Any info? Please read and give insight on the latest news on the 49ers: http://gridironfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=51596 My, my, the 49ers actually signed a GOOD player, not the piece of crap in D Smith or Ulbrich, or Sopoaga, they actually signed a GOOD player in Shaun Hill. They didn't fumble the signing like they always do (see JUlian Peterson). Not sure if he should be the starter, but if it's not making D Jackson drop the ball, maybe consideration needs to be made.
are you jacking SRW's thread? I'm thinking people will talk about it in the original posting and not in a jacked thread...not everybody like to repeat themselves as often as you do. just an fyi
No, if it's news concerning the 49ers, shouldn't it be here concerning who we hire and if Shaun Hill is the starting QB for next year (if Nolan had half a brain of course to cut Trent Dilfer)? I don't get the Sac Bee or the Press Democrat, not my fault the Chronicle misses the boat in these issues if they're not :kma: to HillCare. (that's the pet name for Clinton.)
Headline News is posted as a headline and should be discussed where the original article was posted. This area is used as a general 49er info, please try and post where the original news stories are posted and not repeat it somewhere else it just causes more confusion.
:nohijacking: SuperBeast. That belongs in the trash. OK, from now on, I see any 49er headline in the CHRONICLE and it hasn't been posted here, it goes right into the headline. I'm through being a nice critic.
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/02/06/SPC5USH20.DTL Hill has set up the duel by agreeing to a three-year contract for $6 million, including a signing bonus of about $2 million and playing-time incentives that could push the total to $11.5 million, according to a source familiar with the deal. Not bad for a man who didn't throw the first pass of his six-year NFL career until Dec. 9. That's when the former third-stringer made his 49ers' debut in the second half of the game against the Vikings after Trent Dilfer sustained a concussion. Hill completed 22 of 27 passes, and his 81.5 percentage broke a 39-year-old record for an NFL quarterback making his first pass attempt. Smith, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2005 draft, will have to fend off the first serious challenge of his young career against a player who entered the league as an undrafted free agent from Maryland. Hill is banking that he'll begin camp on an equal footing with Smith even though the 49ers have a great deal more money invested in Smith, entering the fourth year of a six-year, $49.5 million contract that includes $24 million in guaranteed money. Hill's passer rating of 101.3 - albeit in only three games - was far better than Smith's 57.5 and Dilfer's 55.1. Smith's season was short-circuited by shoulder and forearm injuries. Hill missed the final game of the season after breaking three small bones in his lower back in the game against the Buccaneers. In his three appearances, he played despite a fractured index finger on his passing hand. He recently underwent a procedure in which a small amount of bone from his wrist was grafted onto the finger.
So far, the moves are: HIred Mike Martz Hired Offensive line coach, possibly to assist Warhop or put him in the doghouse. Hired Tollner, QB coach Resigned Shaun Hill Cut D Smith :fworks17:arty2:arty2::stang3: About to tender to Bajema Well, I'm ready to say we may win 7 games. Nolan has to do a lot more to secure his job though.
It's still pretty good to know Derek's finally off the team. Thanks Willis for completely proving to everyone just how crappy D. Smith was {even though, it was still pretty obvious before}. Who led the team in tackles last year? Not D. Smith!
I think its funny that the last few years all the D.Smith backers had only one thing to use for backing him, the 100+ tckls a years for 7,000 years....Then comes Willis and destroys Smiths BEST season in his rookie year showing everyione with half a brain that if Smith was a good LB like they thought he was, he should have had 150-180 tckls a year instead of 100-120 a year... end of argument lol......freakin clowns!
Has anybody seen this? http://www.ninersnation.com/special/2008_Mock_Draft_Database James Hardy WR 6-6 220 Indiana Their Take - "The 49ers have been in a free-fall, in no small part because of the team's inability to throw the ball -- they were dead last in passing yards per game in 2007. The receiving corps is a mess, and with Mike Martz coming on board as the new offensive coordinator, it seems quite likely that the 49ers will use their first round pick on a receiver. Hardy is 6'6" and can run a sub 4.6 40. He could do some amazing things in a Mike Martz offense." This sounds pretty damn good!
Thats not the point..the point is that 100-120 tckls a year isn't that good when theres obvioulsy 150-180 out there to get. I would even say that there were more opportunities for Smith to grab 150+ the last few seasons.....It basicly says that 100 people simply ran into smith, not the other way around. And i don't want to here "smith was injured" bc Willis wore a cast for several games and still was able to get 10+ tckls a game. Heck even a 20 tckl game.
Wow, if I wasn't hating you, I'd rep you for that for I totally agree. The 49ers did not have a go to WR, period, either by ineffective or not using them right. I almost say the 49ers should get 2 WRs in the draft, but getting James Hardy must be a priority like when we got Patrick Willis. And thanks to P Willy, we finally dumped that piece of crap in D do nothing Smith. I don't give a crap if D Smith had a lot of tackles, all LBs get to the QB at least 3 times a year or put pressure on him, and D Smith could do either. I hope we get Briggs on the team, or maybe in round 2, draft this LB Beau Bell.
I'll ask here... Are there any players (Free Agents) that the Niners aren't interested in? :icon_cheesygrin: Seems like every "news thread" has the Niners being interested... They get Justin King and Lance Briggs...their D is going to be gooooooood!
