reid has proven his philosophy is not to be questioned. he simply points to the multi lombardis sitting in the eagles trophy case to back his words.
Honestly, I don't think the Super Bowl is going to change Reid's plan for this offseason. Really, the Super Bowl shouldn't change your blueprints at all unless your in it. Maybe he will use that to back up his decision, but like Dawk said, it was coming anyway. If the game does cause Reid to have a revelation, I hope it would be in the area of bulking up the defensive line and going after Allen, but if we land a name that big, I'll be surprised.
I am sure the front office had a plan in place as soon as the regular season was over, but the Pats' loss doesn't hurt their cause. I doubt they go after Allen for two reasons: 1. They are a team that values every single draft pick, all the way down to the compensatory ones. They will not give up a 1st rounder for him. 2. I had read from different sources that Allen has some off-field issues, which is a big no-no in Reid's book. If Reid has shown anything in the past, it's that he is very active when moving up and down the draft. I would not be surprised if the Eagles move up from the 19th spot if they see a guy they want.
Very true, but I'm not a big fan of the philosophy. You could move up and get a Shawn Andrews or move up and get a Mike Mamula (:dooh: ). I feel like the window's been closing for so many years, and the only effort Reid's ever made to try and propel this team to a Super Bowl became it's biggest headache. We're not quite rebuilding, but we're sure as hell not living in the present. It's a shame the management for every team in this city (excluding the Flyers) is so blind. The definition of envy is watching these championship post game celebrations.
too bad they haven't made enough good choices with said draft picks. :icon_frown: this one with the giants hurts more than others. god how i hate the giants. it would feel like this if the mets won the world series. luckily they aren't adding the best pitcher in the game for nothing beyond money. /sarcasm. in all seriousness though, the last time the eagles really made a run they went for it by making two big free agent signings that got us to the big dance. go get some frigging players ! give up a 2nd rounder for fitz or johnson. you're proven you pretty much suck at drafting wr's so why not get one that's already made his mark ? that solves one of your three needs. go get allen, heck having a choir boy team that doesn't take it all, i'd glady trade it for a lombardi from a team with a couple of less than perfect citizens. again, give up a pick, for a player that will contribute "imediately" ! we all know there's basically no way a rookie will ever get a chance to make plays on this team. go draft the secondary/special teams players you need in the draft, personally i would use the 1st rounder for db. there's one (name escapre me right now - greg cosell was talking him up on jodi macyesterday) that has nice coverage skills, can play safety as well as cb, is over 6ft tall, has real nice speed and is a return man. instead on putting your PR puppet master banner on the airwaves ranting about how we are so lucky to have such a fine organiization and should question your judgement on anything maybe you should win something that backs your philosophies. sorry - /rant.
Nothing like a good rant. I agree 100% with just about everything you said. Building a team with good character works great when you already have 3 Lombardi's on your shelf from this decade alone, but that's not us. Really, all Reid should have learned about the deal he made with the devil in 04 is that it got us 3 points away from the promise land. Look at the Patriots. They went against the grain and got Randy Moss, and all they did was miss being labeled the greatest team ever by a couple of minutes. Get Allen, get Johnson, take the baggage. We're not looking for a clean public record, we're looking for a championship and these guys will get you won. I also agree that we need to take Jackson to return kicks (although that would spell the end of getting Johnson or Fitzgerald) or a safety to replace B-Dawk in 2 years and to platoon with Mikell next year.
I think it's so great that many players on the team are speaking up about getting playmakers. It may force the organization to do it. They know the fans are behind the players who have made those statements. I have a gut feeling we really will try to get some top flight players in here. Finishing last in a division where all 3 other teams made the playoffs should force you to do so. If they don't get any real players in here this offseason, or at very least make serious attempts to do so, I will be more pissed at this front office than ever before under this regime.
i like jackson as well. that's why i think there's a chance you get him if you do not have to give a 1st rounder for fitz or more likely johnson. if you can get away with giving up just a 2nd rounder then take jackson. he'll def help the return game as he learns the wr position in this offense. something that tends to be tricky for rookies on this team. the brass standard needs to wake up and it needs to listen to it's fanbase and it's team leaders because we are all qsking for the same things.
Don't see it here on GIFs yet but we just franchised LJ. I was keeping my fingers crossed for this because i expected a big 07 from LJ and now that he has had almost the whole season to rest I expect a bigger 08 from him. Especially since he's gonna want the duckets in 09 from someone.
Yeah, I thought he was going to have a big year last season playing for a new contract, but the injuries prevented it. Hopefully he can stay healthy and we get a player maker at WR to really make this a dangerous offense next year if McNabb's health greatly improves.
yeah, if smith can come back and be healthy all year i think we could see a real good year. the man's playing for his money.
I like it. There wasn't a tight end with his caliber on the free agent market and they weren't going to trade for one. And they certainly wouldn't have been able to draft one with his talent. His tag is pretty cheap at a little over $4 million, so why not? Hopefully this helps get the redzone offense off of it's butt. I am still not holding my breath on them getting a playmaking receiver. wow, it just hit me that we are the only NFC East team that doesn't have a Super Bowl. And what's even worse is that the other 3 have multiple-championships.
I'm not saying it's different, I'm just changing the emphasis on who the title belongs to. I don't have much division pride. Anyway...how bout the probowl? I'm hoping Westbrook gets the chance to earn some more respect on a national level, but I'm hoping more so he comes out of the game without a scratch.
