I think this is posted in the correct spot... I am going to buy a larger hard drive for my desktop. Does anyone have any experience changing one of these? If so, is it hard? How would I transfer the information over? Anything else I should know??? Thanks in advance for the replies and help!! :icon_thumright:
Whats the reason for the upgrade?. I was tinkering with the idea beacuse I maxed out my 250 Gig with movies, in the end I bought a 750 gig external to store them in and it was a great move for me. Pretty cheap too and easy just plugged in and all done.
Hear hear. Buy an External Hard Drive, you can get them at about 200GB for around $170 I think. Then you can plug it in and add it to your current HDD, not replace it.
My 750gig external is a Seagate and I paid $210, can plug in usb, esata and firewire(i think) the software for it automatically installed itself when I connected it to my pc. couldn't be easier. Is that Englands prices? lol (jk) I remeber when I would go home how expensive EVERYTHING was there, basically double in price for what I could get them here for.
I tried to convert it in my head. :icon_lol: Plus, I was only guessing. But as you say, everything over here in the UK tends to be more expensive, stupid Pommes sometimes.
I was looking to put my software on the hard drive and i have my music and pictures on the external already. I have a 500gb mybook. I wanted to keep everything seperate...
Ditto. But the thing is I'm on a laptop so carrying an external HDD around with me wherever I go won't be the easiest thing to do.
Nah, I'm quite happy with the memory I've got I suppose. If I really wanted more room I'd just delete some of the movies that I have that I've never watched, they're about 1GB each. Finally just ordered myself a 2GB RAM stick for my laptop. Cannot wait for it to arrive.
If it's software, you're going to have to reinstall everything on the new HD. Depending on the software, you will be able to copy over files to the new HD and put them in the correct folder they were in before. But the programs will need to be reinstalled. You can't just drag over programs, because it will mess up the registry. I bought a WD Raptor 150GB, 10K RPM harddrive on my new gaming rig in January. This thing flies. It's expensive, but if you game or want to fire up programs quick, look into it.
