State of the Team: New York Giants The Giants quieted many naysayers’ upon defeating the cheatriots in the Superbowl. Many of the defensive players reaped the rewards by skipping town for bigger paychecks. This leaves the G-men hurting in the defensive backfield. The Oline is alright, but needs an upgrade over David Diehl at LT. This would allow them to move Diehl inside where he would be much better suited. Eli lead the team wonderfully through the playoffs, can he continue his progression into the next level. Coaching Changes: There were no major changes in coaching philosophy. Head Coach Tom Coughlin was given a 4 year deal worth 21 million dollars. 2008 Team Needs: I have already mentioned the need to get a franchise LT to help Eli remain at a top level. Look for this to be addressed in the draft in April. Aside from Kiwanuka and Pierce the Giants have junk at LB. They lost 3 in Free Agency and will definitely use one of their first 2 picks to fill this hole The departure of Gibril Wilson opens a need for Safety. Sammy Knight was signed, but the 33 year old journeyman is not the answer short term or long term Sam Madison has been spotted looking for Wilfred Brimley and his cocoons because the guy is getting old. Aaron Ross and Corey Webster are decent but you can bank the Giants are looking to get another Corner to play with Ross to allow Webster to come in on nickel packages. Possible Free Agent Solutions: The Giants tried to get involved in talks to get Javon Walker and fizzed out. There was some talk about a trade for DeAngelo Hall after Trufant and Asomugha were both Franchised. It was speculated the Giants would give their first round pick for the disgruntled Falcon, but that too has fizzled out. It’s become apparent that the Giants are going to address their needs through the draft. Possible Draft Solutions: The Giants currently hold the following picks… 31st (1st round) 56th (2nd round) 87th (3rd round) In addition they have a 4th (118), 5th (149), 6th (185) & 7th (216) With the 1st rounder, the Giants want Cromartie, but DRC won’t be there and they will settle for Antoine Cason. Dan Connor has been a popular pick in Mocks and would be the choice should Cason not be available if the Packers pick him the pick before theirs. In the 2nd round the Giants can focus on LB/S with the CB position address and being able to draft Xavier Adibi will go a long way into replacing the players lost to Free Agency. Adibi is fast, real fast. He could end up at OLB or SS due to his size and speed. His coverage skills will be an upgrade over what the Giants threw out there last year. In the 3rd the Giants address the Oline. Tony Hills would be a top LT prospect be it not for a few injuries and that this year is very deep at Offensive Tackle. This is a steal at this pick Conclusion: What can you really say about the team that just won the Superbowl? They certainly have some holes to fill and some question marks, but at this point every team was. Last year at this time I had them pegged as last place and a lame duck season for the HC. Boy, was I wrong, but I was hardly the only one that said those words. Now it comes down to Talent Evaluation and and taking the right risks.
I see where you're coming from and I realize this was made before Flowers had dropped, but I can see us taking Flowers in the first since he is falling pretty fast, because he ran slow. I like the way the kid plays the game. Also rumors of us taking Gosder Cherilus if he falls far enough which I would love, move Diehl back into LG and keep Ware off of Mannings butt. Other than that I like it. Craig Steltz 4th round FTW.
If Brooklyn hates you, you deserve to be hated on. He's a class act, wordsmith, and saint in my opinion. I've never met anyone on the internet that I've respected so much. I'm pretty sure he's the Pope.
