He is fast, powerful and far from a finished product. He is described as humble but confident enough to compare his running style to that of a future Pro Football Hall of Famer. He is well-rounded -- he writes poetry and music in his spare time -- and is considered such a solid citizen that occasional moodiness is apparently the closest thing Rashard Mendenhall has to a character flaw. "Yeah," Walter Mendenhall, Rashard's older brother, said late week, "sometimes he likes his space." The Steelers took Mendenhall in the first round of last weekend's NFL Draft because they envision the former Illinois star creating plenty of space for himself on the football field.

I like Mendenall...seems like a kid who could be a real work horse, as long as his body holds up.

Seems like he's one of those all around "good guys." Like Marvin Harrison...:icon_wink:

he has much talent but what did the hamstring injury do to him

i fear it may linger for much of the season

I hope not. He should be alright. There are still a couple months before training camp.

    lol...his attorney said he's not a suspect.

Mendenhall's hammy will be okay. the Steelers are gonna be careful with this kid.

Yeah, now all he needs is an o-line.

    Our o-line will be decent.

Really?? It was average at best last season and it just lost Alan Faneca (Who, despite you trying to tell me otherwise, was your best O-lineman last season).

True, Faneca will be missed. No doubt! However, the starters are healthy, Hartwig will most likely win the center position where Mahan was a mess and didn't know how to call the protection schemes. The addition of Hartwig, should help immensly.

We had Mahan in the middle he was a horrible center, without a anchor your o-line will collapse. We have Hartwig in the center now and a decent foundation around him.

I like your optimism I do. But the Jets found out the hard way last season that presuming other players will step up and replace a very good player, it doesn't always work out and can go horribly wrong. We let go of Pete Kendall thinking the rest of the O-line could hold up without him. Clarke who came in for him was like a turnstile and caused both our QB's to get injured.

I hope the best for you guys, my brothers a Pittsburgh fan so I see just about every Steeler game, I just really have a bad feeling about the O-line, which is the most important aspect of an offense.

If I was a Steelers fan, I would be excited about the running game. Willie Parker and Rashard Mendenhall, a two headed monster.

im stil not sure about parker if im honest but really like the look of mendenhall, he likes a very quick back that'll help out the backfield passing game too

Steelers were the number 3 rushing offense in the league last year and although I agree that there were some issues with the o-line.....I think it was more in pass protection than in the rushing game. Tomlin liked to run the ball but definitely liked the pasing game more than Cowher did. I think the Steelers ground game will be fine.

Willie Parker sucks. I want to see Mendenhall carrying the ball full time. Just, not against the Giants.
