Let me get this straight...according to the game center, Forte gained 9 yards on first down and they threw the ball the next two downs? Wtf?
What the heck kind of crapty, cocksucking, second rate, goobered playcalling is THAT!?!?! You gain 9 yards on first down, at mid-field, with plenty of time to keep the drive going, and you PBUTT on 2nd and 3rd down...THEN run on 4TH down? Un-freaking-believable!!!!! I'm SICK!
That last drive was terrible playcalling after the first down run by Forte, I agree. But the Panthers game ball still goes to Greg Olsen. And Orton.......he needs to be able to hit a wide open receiver deep down the field. On the Bears possession before the Panthers took the lead, Marty Booker was wide open and had at least 3 steps on his defender and Orton could not get the ball to him. He also missed another open receiver deep on the following drive. Orton is fine when he can stick to the short/medium passes but he simply cannot throw deep very well at all. It is a crippling limitation to have when your team is down late in a game.
I just can't believe they blew that lead. And all those points you made aside, all they had to do was gain ONE yard on 3rd down and only have to go about another 15 or 20 yards to be in Gould's range. WHY THE FREAK WOULD YOU THROW THE BALL ON 3RD AND 1?!?!?! Especially since you're going to go for it on 4th down ANYWAY! The chances of them stopping the run twice in a row aren't that good. Also, why wouldn't you give it Forte in ANY case? Yeah, Olsen fumbled twice and Orton couldn't hit the deep man...but at the end of the day, the playcalling cost us that game from what I'm hearing/reading. Sickening!
Well, even if they convert that 3rd and 1 or 4th and 1, no guarantee that Orton doesn't screw it up. The 3rd down pass he threw should have been a pick 6....he had at least 3 other throws that should have been picked off. I can't focus on that final drive play calling too much because look, the only reason it came to that situation was Olsen's fumbles and Orton's inability to hit the deep pass to Booker. Overall, the play calling in the 2nd half wasn't great. So Turner, Orton, Olsen. The nominees for goat of the game. :icon_confused:
I see what you're saying, but to have the opportinity to erase those miscues and put yourself into a position to at least tie, and not do it because of knucklehead play calling is disgusting to me. They had the chance to rectify those mistakes and blew it. What a choke.
Actually in the postgame it has been stated that on the 3rd and 1 play, Turner called a run but Orton audibled to the WR screen pbutt. So yeah, Orton doesn't get a free pass here at all.
Terrible first half. We didn't know what we were doing, off key, around 10 penalties mostly falsestarts... second half we got together, and once again another jake delhomme 4th qtr comeback. he is now first amoung active QBs in 4th qtr TD's. Great game for stewart, another FF for Harris and another FR for gamble. Hell of a game boys, look for 3-0 next week vs the Vikes' .
massive choke job. Totally hecked that up, should have been relying on Forte, not Orton, terrible play calling and Lovie needs to be stranded on a desert island with gilligan.
Yup... The Bears started the game strong but didn't finish it strong and thats one of the keys to winning in the NFL.
