I definately liked Weeks, but Days to me is a better movie. Still go to sleep hoping I don't wake up to a rage virus infected town.

I watched "ICHI The Killer" the other night, a japanese film which had english subs. Overall I liked it, easily the most gore and blood I've ever seen in a movie. I wanted to list it in my top 10 horror films of all-time but I really couldn't get into ICHI's character he was incredibly good killer but ICHI was a snitch, he would cry for no reason in some scenes and It didn't really make sense for a character of his strength to weep all throughout the movie.

On the other hand there was another character named Kakihara (in the picture below) who was soo incredibly awesome and insane. He cuts off his own tongue in the movie, tortures other gang members, gets punched in the mouth and rips off all the flesh on the guys hand. When he smoked smokes it would blow out the side of his cheeks lol which was cool. All in all this was a pretty tight movie, I recommend it to anyone who likes this type of movie. You know, sociopath/horror/action/thriller/blood....

i own that movie, the DVD case is a blood bag, lol

kakihara is a sick mofo, the way he tortures the dude that he thinks knows where his boss is burning and melting the dudes skin while he is hanging from the hooks, just sickening. Also the real reason he wanted to know where his boss was, was because no one inflicted pain on him like his boss and being the sick mofo pain lover, he wanted his boss back so he could be beaten by him more. He cut his toungue out as retribution for hurting that other mafia dude.

Ichi is a cat. he equated s*x and sad emotions together and when he would get all upset he would slice people with his razor boots, like when he saved that tramp from getting beaten by her pimp by slashing him and she started freaking out on him he sliced her in half from head to toe, that was awesome seing both halves falling from each other.

Over all a really crazy movie and the way those clown killers were messing with the tramps was even more hecked up.

I hear that Old Boy is even more sick and twisted but it has been not available on netflix since I have been a member.

Side note, the dude who played kakihara is a famous pop star in japan, REAL famous, so it was surprising to see him put on a strong performance. my favorite is when he caught the punch in his mouth and then opened his jaws like some monster and tore the skin off like you mentioned

Yeah man that was so awesome that part... LOL he was so awesome, the way he died sucked. It really looked like he wasn't going to die. then when he does die he says something like "WOW this is amazing!" I just laughed. But yeah the ICHI character was really dissapointing in fact I despised his character. Kakihara made the movie... That Karen chick was hot as well.

kakihara died because he had to, he was always in search of the highest pain or the pain that was on another level, when he came across ichi he knew that ichi was the only one that could inflict the pain he was looking for and when he sliced his brain it was the pain that kakihara was looking for which is why he said, "wow, this is amazing" and dying was just the conclusion of that pain, so he went out like he wanted to and feeling what he wanted to feel. What a sick bastard, but he definitely made the movie.

I felt bad for that undercover cop dude with the son that ichi killed in front of the sun.

    Appaloosa.

Not nearly as good as I expected, I was very dissapointed. It wasn't horrible, but it was far from good. About the epitome of mediocre. Not enough action to be a good shootin' and ridin' good guys vs. bad guys western, and not enough character development and plot to be a good plot driven thinker of a flick. Plus Renee Zellweger completely hecked off her character and as a result all interactions by the other actors with her. Mortensen and Harris were pretty damn good together, but put either one or both of them with Zellweger and it was like they just forgot how to act. No chemistry AT ALL.

I could keep going but you get the idea. Don't go out and pay to see it, but watch it when it's out on DVD or get a pirate copy.

another great japanese horror movie is Audition, its about this hecked up crazy lady who lulls this guy into a false sense of security that she is this submissive, while plotting to execute torture. she has this one dude at her apartment that she keeps in a bag, and she cut off his feet and fingers and blinded him and only lets him out to eat, and all he eats is crap that she pukes up. She does stuff with needles and piano wire. Totally whacked out movie.

This director holds a phony Audition to find a suitable woman to be his wife and step mom to his son and has no idea what he's in for when he makes his selection.

Also, Dumplings which is about this pretentious japanese woman who is afraid of growing older and losing her husband that she goes to extremes to make herself look younger, learning from this lady to take her "special" dumplings that work wonders for the skin and take years off what you look like. The secret about the dumplings is that they are made from aborted fetuses. That movie it really hecked up, a short version can be seen on the 3 movie compilation called 3 extremes.

I will say that the japanese are ahead of the game in the new genre of horror.

Old Boy was awesome. I won't go over the details since you probably know the gist of it and I don't want to ruin anything or give you any expectations, but suffice to say it was an EXCELLENT flick. Highly reccommended. It's part of a "trilogy" as well, the other two movies in the series are great as well, I really liked both of them - "Sympathy for Mr. Venegance" and "Lady Venegance". Hard to say which was my favorite, but I'd lean slightly towards Lady Venegance.
I used to live near a really cool video store that the owner of was really into indie and foreign films, especially Asian stuff that probably rarely if ever gets into any other video stores. He was personally REALLY into Japanese samurai and action stuff, he turned me on to a bunch of crap...Lone Wolf and Cub, the Yakuza Papers, Oldboy (not japanese, but still), Zatoichi, a whole bunch of random Samurai flicks. I was really into Jap cinema for a while there. Love Kurosawa. I never really felt the new-wave horror stuff though. I mean, I recognize it's quality as film and all, but it's just not what I enjoy watching. Ichi was a great flick, but the new hardcore Jap horror stuff is just too extreme for me I guess. I don't find it entertaining.

Another good one is the REAL Bangkok Dangerous, not the Nic Cage BS. Check it out if you can. I also like Infernal Affairs better than The Departed.
