According to Dave Meltzer, the January BJ Penn vs. Georges St. Pierre fight will be for the welterweight title:St. Pierre vs. Penn will be for the welterweight title, giving Penn the chance to become the first person in UFC history to hold championships in two weight divisions at the same time. This is great news from my perspective, I really hated the idea of another three round fight between these two.

    This is freaking awesome.

I was so worried that it wasn't gonna be for a belt.

    Now who to bet on...

He was awarded the win, but I still don't think he won the fight.

He won the 3rd round and that is it.

I've never been huge into these fights, but a friend of mine has been dragging me to B-Dubs to watch a few here and there. I actually really enjoyed watching BJ Penn.

This seems a ways out to be announcing this... do they always do announce this early?

They generally like to announce the fights as soon as the fighters agree to them.

It's also not uncommon for the fights to either be canceled because of injury, or replacements taking in injured fighters spot.
