I only caught the 8th and 9th inning of the game... Kinda sucks but oh well. Nice W for the Phillies.

I watch these games with so much emotion, I don't know how you guys can post and watch this. I am a wreck right now. I was going crazy and stranding 11 men on base was killing me. Cole was fantastic when he needed to be and madsen-lidge shut them down

Phillies opened the 1980 world series with a 1 run victory over the Royals, lets continue the trend of what happened to the Phils in 1980

First stat I check on a box score is LOB. Good point Mike. Congratulations to the Phanatics for a great pitching performance game one winner.

I respect what cole did, but aren't you a tad worried about being 0fer with risp? if cole didn't pitch a quality start what would have happened? I wait to declare a favorite to win until game 4, that way the phils can get cole another start and see what the series is at by then.

In a weird way, it kind of calms me...

I'm with you...a nervous wreck...but this calmed me down a little. maybe a slight bit of a distraction.

Wow!!! Great Game 1 guys!!! Hamels was the man:notworthy: .....and a typical outing by Kaz: gives up a few runs in the first couple of innings, then settles in.

The Rays' bullpen definitely held it's own against the Phillies. You think Balfour was pissed that he couldn't finish the game???:icon_cheesygrin:

I just have to keep reminding myself that the Rays lost game 1 to the Sox...obviously tonight's game will be pivotal for them - can't go to Philly down 0-2.....:banghead:

that was a great game last night. IN the last 11 world series whoever wins game 1 win 10 out of the last 11 series. so the Phillies have the advantage here. i still say Phillies in 7

great win last night. a little worried going 0-13 with RISP especially on howard & rollins part. howard needs to stop swinging at these lousy pitches away a draw more walks, if he does that he'll help by keeping pressure on the opposing pitcher by having runners on base & he will get more pitches to actually hit. rollins did make good contact on a couple pitches but needs to be on top of the ball a little more to turn those line outs into base hits.

on this possible balk deal, regardless of what these talking head dope announcers like ken "1/2 pint" rosenthal say, by rule there has to be a "definitive" move towards home plate, it was boderline and it could've went either way IMO but rays fans have to ask themselves why the hell was pena running there anyway ?

also, when utley was on 3rd later in the game the rays pitcher, howell i believe balked three times and it wasn't called.

botton line this was a pitcher's duel for the most part and if you're a fan of baseball this was a classic game.

BTW - who will be at taco bell 10/28 from 2/6pm ??? :cope:

Good game by the Phillies last night. That was a fun game to watch, Hamel pitched really well again, what else is new. Howard has been an absolute liability at the plate the entire playoffs and it continued last night but one swing in a tight game and everyone will forget previous at bats.

As an outsider I hope to see more one run games, they are definitely more interesting to watch. I'm sure the Phillies and Rays fans will disagree.

    We are 3 wins away!!!!

    There's one thing I don't understand:
Why is Myers pitching tonight? I'd rather see Moyer tonight. If he has another short outing, it's not too bad because we still have homefield advantage. BUT if myers looses it tonight and moyer pitches in game 3, the rays could be up 2-1.
Another point is, that Myers is better in hitting than Moyer (remember his last to games). That would fire the crowd up. What do you think?

i wanted to see myers at home. not becasue of hitting but because of his 2008 numbers:

    HOME - ERA: 3.01 Wins: 7 Loses: 5
    AWAY - ERA: 6.21 Wins: 3 Loses: 8

and while i was looking up thise stats, i found these, all from 2008:

    Dome - ERA: 8.18 Wins: 0 Loses: 2
    Open - ERA: 4.32 Wins: 10 Loses: 11

i would have started him game 3 at home. and if they didnt want cole and jamie going back to back leftys, id have let blanton start game 2
