According to Troy E. Renck of the Denver Post, the Phillies and Cardinals are the top suitors for Rockies outfielder Matt Holliday.

The Cards main bargaining chip is Ryan Ludwick and the Phils are discussing J.A. Happ, Victorino and Carlos Carraso....Jayyson Werth could be involved to.

I don't think the article meant they would give up all the players involved, just listed the players that had been mentioned as part of a deal.

I'd hate to see what else the Cards would have to give up other than Ludwick.

It doesn't make much sense to me why the Cardinals would trade one power hitting outfielder for another one I know Matt Holiday is better than Ludwick but I think the Cardinals would be better served trading one of their outfielders to fill a hole, for a Pitcher or SS/2B with power hitting ability.

The Baseball forum is more active than the NFC and AFC NFL forums lol! I luv it...

Ludwick came out of no where to do what he did last year and he's also 30 years old. If they can get Holliday without having to give up much besides Ludwick then I'm all for it. 2B can be addresses through free agency by going after Orlando Hudson. Edgar Renteria may also be back in St Louis as the SS.

No way should we give up Victorino or Werth for Holliday.

I'd entertain the idea of Happ and Carrasco, though.

Holliday had 2/3 of his RBI and more than half of his HR's at Colorado. I know Philly is a hitter's park, but this guy is a lifetime .280 hitter away from Colorado & .332 hitter at colorado and has 2 times as many HR's in Colorado for his career.

Yeah interesting you should mention this, my old man is a Cards fan and he says Hollidays numbers are inflated because he plays in Colorado. I don't know a good hitter is a good hitter but you can't ignore those stats.

Holliday is a great hitter, whether he's playing in Coors or another stadium. His numbers away from Coors aren't as good as the ones when he plays at Coors, but they aren't bad by any means. He's basically Raul Ibanez away from Coors. No team would be disappointed to have that kind of production. The problem arises when he hits the market asking for Mark Teixera money with crazy butt Boras as his agent.

That said, it looks like both Philly and St. Louis are out of the Holliday sweepstakes. Eventually, Colorado is going to have to lower their price.

Yeah because St Louis is only offering Ludwick, Schumaker, and Boggs. But I mean Ludwick kicked butt in St Lew why wouldn't he kick butt in Colorado? Apparently the A's are after him as well as Red Sox, Rays, Yankees, Mets, and Nats all have interest.

That's a great deal. I know Ludwick hadn't done much before this past year and that many players don't hit their prime when they're 30, but how can you ignore those monster numbers he put up last year? He could be a fluke, but I really doubt it. Schumaker is nothing special, but he is someone capable of starting for them now and giving them .300+ average and a .350+ OBP. Boggs is not a great pitching prospect, but just like Schumaker, he could start for the Rox next year.

Maybe they want a better pitching prospect, but I really can't see why they would turn that deal down.
