"We have moved on," Braves general manager Frank Wren told FOXSports.com on Friday. "We had our last discussion with San Diego yesterday and let them know that if the final names we were discussing wouldn't get it done, we would move on to other opportunities, other possibilities." The Braves will now pursue starting pitchers on the free agent market, and their targets include right-handers Derek Lowe, A.J. Burnett and Ryan Dempster. SOURCE: Fox Sports
They're not out of it. They didn't pull the offer, they're just not increasing it. Towers has already told Peavy he will be traded, so if he doesn't get a better offer than the Braves', he might just have to bite the bullet and accept it. The Yankees are now "in the mix", but what are the chances they put that much money into two pitchers (CC and Peavy)? Also, Cashman and Towers are good friends, so it could just be a show to try and get other teams to up their offer.
5 Star Prospects 1. Josh Vitters, 3B 4 Star Prospects 2. Jeff Samardzija, RHP 3. Jose Ceda, RHP 4. Andrew Cashner, RHP 3 Star Prospects 5. Hak-Ju Lee, SS 6. Tyler Colvin, OF 7. Dae-Eun Rhee, LHP 8. Ryan Flaherty, 2 Star Prospects 9. Welington Castillo, C 10. Donald Veal, LHP 11. Micah Hoffpauir, 1B Thats how I'd rate their prospects. The Cubs are weird cause they have Guys like Pie, Soto, Cedeno, and Ascanio who are young players that haven't filled out their full potential. They definitely have some good prospects though. Vitters is top notch same goes for former Notre Dame WR Jeff.
Ceda is gone. He was included in the Gregg trade. I'd think Hoffpauir is a little more than a 2-star prospect. He's already Major League ready.
The Cubs don't have the talent to get a deal done, that is why Jim Hendry has been trying to work this into a 3 team deal. But no dice so far. Also Samardzija has a Full No Trade Clause and his agent has already said he will not waive it. So no Shark in any possible deal either.
