Fill out... just for fun. C 1B 2B SS 3RD OF OF OF DH Bench 1. 2. 3. 4. Rotation 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Bullpen 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.
The 2008 Philadelphia Phillies World Series Roster :icon_mrgreen: Going with current players: C: Joe Mauer (easy) 1B: Albert Pujols (easier) 2B: Chase Utley (not close) SS: Hanley Ramirez (probably the first pick if this is done draft style, his defense has improved a lot) 3B: Alex Rodriguez (but you could make a case for Wright because of age, speed and defense) RF: Curtis Granderson CF: Carlos Beltran (as much as I hate to say it :bad:) LF: Carlos Quentin DH: My Dream Team doesn't have a DH, because in real baseball, there's no such thing. But if I have to choose: Lance Berkman Bench 1. David Wright (:bad:) 2. Chipper Jones (great switch-hitting bat off the bench) 3. Brian McCann (you can't have just one catcher) 4. Mark Derosa (the ultimate utility player) (not much speed, but there's already plenty in the lineup) Rotation 1. Roy Halladay 2. CC Sabathia 3. Johan Santana (:bad:) 4. Webb (though this is easily Lincecum's spot after another year, just need to see more consistency before I put him in my top 5) 5. Hollywood Hamels (my homer pick) Bullpen SU: Carlos Marmol SU/Long: Ryan Madson LH/Long: Damaso Marte LHS J.C. Romero CL1: Brad Lidge CL2: Joe Nathan (I added a spot to the bullpen because I needed another lefty in there)
I like that Granderson pick. Hes an awesome player and a bit underrated in my opinion. C Joe Mauer (Twins) Hes just too good to pass on. 1B Albert Pujols (Stl) One of the top players in the game. 2B Ian Kinsler (Tex) Hell of a hitter, not great defensively but still a top player. SS Hanley Ramirez (Fla) Too good of a player and very young. 3RD Alex Gordon (KC) Young with good HR power potential. LF Jason Bay (Bos) Proven player, 40 HR potential. CF Curtis Granderson (Det) Strikesout a bunch but other than that hes awesome in every facet. RF Josh Hamilton (Tex) Awesome hitter and good D. DH Ryan Howard (Phi) Hits alot of Home Runs. Bench 1. 2B Orlando Hudson (Fa) Awesome defensively... 2. OF Grady Sizemore (Cle) The kid can do it all. 3. C Yadier Molina (Stl) Nobodys better than him defensively. 4. SS Jose Reyes (Nym) Speed, Speed, and more Speed... Rotation 1. Roy Halladay (Tor) Ace. 2. Edinson Volquez (Cin) Great young pitcher with nasty stuff. 3. Tim Lincecum (Sf) Future Ace... 4. Brandon Webb (Arz) Great pitcher with wicked stuff. 5. Cole Hamels (Phi) Sorry Santana... Hamels is the cream of the crop Bullpen 1. RP Jonathan Papelbon (Bos) Up n comer with good stuff. 2. RP Jonathan Broxton (La) top notch pitcher. 3. RP Joel Zumaya (Det) 95+ Mph fastball. 4. SU Mariano Rivera (Ny) One of the best closers and consistent. 5. CP Francisco Rodriguez (Fa) Most saves in single season by a Closer. And there team name would be Texas Rangers. sicckkkk team!
Why Alex Gordon? He's never going to reach A-Rod's level and if you want to go with a younger player, there's Longoria whose ceiling is higher and who also plays better defense. Also, I don't know how you can have two second basemen on the team with none of them being named Chase Utley. Hudson's defense is declining fast. His range is decreasing. He's still good defensively, but he's not the elite defender he once was. Utley meanwhile was at the top of the league in terms of range and runs saved on defense last year.
Gordon is a great player and won't be as expsensive as A-Rod. I love A-Rod but that contract is too big and he was already at Texas. Longoria is good but I like Gordon more. You gotta love that Bullpen though.
I'll stick with current players to and to hell with a payroll. I'm also going with a little more youth. :icon_cheesygrin: C Joe Mauer 1B Albert Pujols 2B Chase Utley SS Hanley Ramirez 3RD David Wright RF Matt Holliday CF Grady Sizemore LF Ryan Braun DH Carlos Quentin Bench 1.Dustin Pedroia 2.Yadier Molina (Gotta have the best defensive catcher in the bigs) 3.Evan Longoria 4.Ryan Howard Rotation 1.Brandon Webb 2.Roy Halladay 3.Johan Santana 4.Rich Harden (some of the nastiest stuff on the planet) 5.Tim Lincecum Bullpen 1.Papelbon (I hate him but he's my closer) 2.Carlos Marmol 3.Grant Balfour (.154 ERA and a .143 BAA) 4.Johnathan Broxton 5.Scott Linebrink
