even though I stopped PSing, I still read tutorials and look at alot of GFX simple and fresh has always trumped complicated sigs in my book
Are there shapes for backgrounds included in Fireworks dude? Are there tools to make them? How do I do the circles and the lines?

If you click on the rectangle tool a drop down menu should appear and there is an option to create circles as well. The line tool is right below the circle/rectangle tool. I took an existing background I found on flickr and just manipulated it. Here's the original.
So should I have gotten into the Fireworks or Photoshop class? Fireworks seems pretty good for graphics creation, and PS is good for graphics manipulation.
HH, it depends what you want to do. Fireworks is more for web page design. PS can do most everything FW can do but for photography PS is light years better. FW is just simpler in my opinion and since I don't use it for anything but sigs I felt it was a better fit for me. That being said, I'm also quickly growing fustrated with FW limitations and have been thinking of giving PS a try.
