Ravens running back Le'Ron McClain has added 20 pounds compared to his playing weight last season. This might be a problem if he doesn't get in better condition when training camp starts. This could indicate that he will serve in a more traditional fullback role this season since Lorenzo Neal is no longer with the team and since the Ravens are extremely deep at running back. good point SRW. my inclination is that the extra 20 lbs was unexpected even though the article hints that he may have been instructed to beef up to "serve in a more traditional fullback role". What made Mclain so effective is that he was just the right size to both be an effective blocker but also being agile enough to run effectively and even catch passes in the flat. i don't think they would want to change that.
I'm fairly confident Le'Ron will be able to drop the 20lbs if he is instructed to - guys show up to OTA overweight all the time, no biggy.
If they going to use him primarily as a blocker it might be a good thing. Wont know until he gets on the field and shows how he can handle himself at 280
He has had a problem keeping the weight off, he did the same exact thing last season but he took it off before the season and had a big year, i expect the same this year
