I don't think this is surprising, and it is well deserved, but I think it freaking sucks. PFT was a daily favorite/go to before GIF (I just get most of my news here now). I just hope they don't heck it all up.
In launching his home-grown website eight years ago, Mike Florio, a West Virginia labor lawyer and sharp-witted football fan, created a way to give his two cents on the NFL. Now, NBC is going to pay him a lot more than that. The network will announce by Monday that it has formed a wide-ranging partnership with Florio's Profootballtalk.com - known as PFT to its legions of readers - with plans to make it a permanent feature at the top of the NBC Sports site. Congratulations to Mike and Aaron at PFT.com. Mike started out small and has come a long way. People used to criticize his validity and I always stood by him. As a lawyer he knows how to get access to the legal dirt, and what athlete does not have legal dirt. Aaron is a Raven insider and owns the Ravens Scout.com message board. Plus Aaron writes for The Carroll County Times as the Ravens beat writer. Both are very credible and have a slew of "Sources", named or unnamed through out the league. Plus Mike has been writing articles for The Sporting News for over a year now. It is nice to see the fruits of their labor come to fruition. Mike also owns College Football Talk.com. Good job guys and good luck in your future endeavors.
To all the haters.....what do you have to say now??? I used to love how people used to blow his site off as pure BS. He's been more accurate with his reporting than ESPN's gaggle of NFL reporters (so...the Vikings gave Favre a deadline, huh?) yet he still would get crap on by people who were too close-minded to believe a story couldn't be legit unless it was broken by FOX or ESPN or some other major conglomerate. Good for Mike, he's earned it with all his hard work and great work over at PFT.com. I just hope NBC doesn't get their corporate hands on it and change the feel of PFT's content.
Not just because you are SRW, but I agree with every word in this quote. Dude has the inside info before every other source.
Mike still owns the site, NBC just got exclusive rights to publish it. Mike will never change. You are gonna see Mike on the telly in the very near future. Mark my words. You heard it here first. Mike does a dozen radio show call-ins a week also. :icon_cool:
Good for him...wonder what kind of dough he's getting... He's been dead on since I've been visiting his site...like SRW said, I hope that NBC doesn't change the feel and content of the site...
Let's not get carried away. He's more Drudge Report than anything else, reposting other people's news. Sure he gets a few scoops but not significant ones like Schefter or Glazer do. Is he good? Yes. The best? Not quite.
Hate on haters, he'll be laughing all the way to the bank either way and I'll gladly keep PFT as required reading 10-12 times a day. I just think it's cool that someone who isn't a journalist created this site simply because he loves football and it's grown to this. And no he might not be the best in the business but IMO he's in the top five with Adam Schefter, Jay Glazer, Peter King and (arguably...although I think he stinks) Chris Mortensen.
Good for him. For someone that wasn't officially in the business, he earned himself a nice payday. I've never totally trusted many of his stories, but I respect what he's done.
