The Associated Press reports that thousands of hopeful Lions fans stood outside Ford Field in the rain Saturday before going inside to watch the team’s first scrimmage. “I’ve got hope,†said fan Greg Kowaleski of Southgate, Mich. “There’s a new coach and a lot of new players. Things are pretty bad around here, so maybe they’ll entertain us.†Lions coach Jim Schwartz hoped the show of support would make an impression outside of Michigan. “Anytime I hear someone around the country talking about taking (the annual Thanksgiving) game away from Detroit, I want to remind the commissioner of 15,000 people standing in the rain for two hours to watch a practice,†Schwartz said. “It says something about our fans.†Source: Associated Press
Ive only been watching football for almost 10 years now so as a eagles fan i havent really been through a really bad year yet. 05 was the worst i went through at 6-10 and even that really sucked. I hated mike mcmahon he was the worst when mcnabb went down.
We do have some of the most dedicated fans.....Last year was the first year since before the Lions moved from the Silverdome that games were blacked out because they didn't sell out. And most of the problems while at the Silverdome was that it seated 80,311 people which was way higher than any other football stadium other than the Superdome. Yeah we love our Lions.....Can't wait to exit the from the bottom of the league this year!!
Hopefully their football team can reward their loyalty, otherwise I think after two consecutive 0-16 seasons you get demoted to the CFL (I think thats how it works anyhow).
While our team is terrible year after year and we have never really won anything the fans hear are phenominal! IF we ever do go to the playoffs or win a superbowl this city will explode. I remember watching the "DEAD WINGS" as a kid, and my father saying I hope they win a cup before I die. I now feel the same way about the Lions.
not to hate on other sports towns but this is why when other sports towns try and say they are the best to put it bluntly they are a joke and they dont understand what it really is to be a fan in no other town would 15,000 people stand in the rain to get in fruad field to watch a team practice it wasnt even a scrimige we have 4 major sports we pack each stadium every game only reason we didnt sellout every seat at fraud field was people were trying to make a statement last year we have what is soon again be the largest stadium in the world (non-soccer) in Ann Arbor 108,000+ every game East Lansing holds another 80,000 every game not forgetting about both michigan state and now again michigan basketball as well as grand valley sag state C Michigan W Michigan E Michigan among others and even high school sports on friday nights its not like texas but we pack those fields as well
Ummm ok dont get to ahead of yourself. You had games blacked out last year cause they dident sell out yea very dedicated. Also ticket sales to the detroit pistons have been going down from what they were before as well. The eagles had 31000 fans at the linc for a practice a week ago so dont get to high. Detroit is far from having the best fans.
I guess you haven't realized this, but even before the global financial problems there were hard times in Detroit, so the people of the town don't excately have $100 to go to games when they could use that money to survive.
Yea alot of citys were effected but they still sell out games and its not like the city is so bad that nobody goes to games.
Here's a difference, lots of people have left Detroit, the population has sunked below a million, the majority that are left in there are basically in poverty, the city is in a complete mess. Just obviously your ignorance doesn't allow you to see past your nose.
And then put the city in a bigger whole, taking away a large amount of revenue. Gosh, you wouldn't look out of place as a Republican.
15,000 fans... I understand that Detroit has more than just the Lions, but, hmm, how about this.... The Packers scrimmage ended up being canceled, BUT 50,000 fans were there. Green Bay Packers' Family Night scrimmage washed out | Postcrescent.com | Appleton Post-Crescent
