Lol so they bring in Thigpen's twin just to release him? Thigpen had success with very little talent around him.
That's the thing...he didn't really have success. He was 1-11 as a starter. Sure the defense sucked butt but we heavily modified the offense to make him not completely inept. You can blame as much of it on the rest of the team that you want but he did not stand out. He just wasn't as bad as Brody Croyle and not worse than Huard was in 2007 whom no one was calling a franchise QB. You're making me bust out the stats...54.8% completion which isn't good. 186 yards per game, again not good. QB rating of 76...which is close to last in the league for any QB with a reasonable amount of games started. I'm not saying the guy is completely worthless, he's just not someone I'd feel good about being my franchise QB.
The funny thing is that Cassel is a taller version of Thigpen. If you want some stats look at how many times the Chiefs lost in the final quarter. Thigpen is not a pro-bowler by any means, but he knows the team and he helped put them in some of the games last season. Instead now you have a guy who had the likes of Randy Moss and Wes Welker and one of the top O-lines in the league, yet was one of the tops in hits and sacks(because he can't read a defense and holds the ball too long) and the worst starting QB in the redzone and will still need to run an offense from the shotgun because Cassel can't take a snap from under center. And you are stuck with him for years.
I think Herm was grooming Thigpen last year and just throwing him in the fire and pressure cook him 4 this year. 2 many times they just let Thigpen sink or swim and hardly running the ball. let alone i think that exactly what Herm was doing 2 the D as well, by only rushing 4 lineman on every play until the 4th quarter and blitz sometimes. KC would be in an uproar if they just cut Thigpen. He had alot 2 learn and he did a decent job by not always throwing away the game last year. **********Automerged Doublepost********** hey MJ thought you just said that you wouldnt judge Cassel just yet? :icon_rolleyes:
I honestly don't know what we have in Cassel...it could be bad, we'll see. I do know what we have in Thigpen and it doesn't do much for me. Cassel was better in every statistical category but of course his team was better. We'll see....I've just gotta trust Pioli at this point. Denver wanted Cassel too, so the guys that worked with him think highly of him.
That was regarding his struggles. Cassel being hit and the worst redzone QB are facts. But you must be too blind in homerism to see that. So some sarcasm right back at ya kiddo.:icon_rolleyes:
If they are dumb enough to release Thigpen, he'll wind up somewhere with the quickness! He's a nice player to have as a back up or possibly the eventual starter. Both Thigpen and Cassel put up similiar numbers last season and Thigpen did it with less...
