49ers Need More Time To Choose Their Starting QB

Coach Mike Singletary said he's not ready to name a starting quarterback, as he continues to mull over the decision with his staff. "I have to look at some more film," Singletary said. "It takes me a little longer than some other people. I think attention to detail is key. That's why." A decision at QB could be made at some point this week, though Singletary has not announced a timetable. After watching the film of the 49ers' 21-20 win over the Raiders, Singletary's view of the QB play was unchanged. "It was nothing great," he said. "I just feel it's one of those things, you have to look at the mechanics and some of the small things, and other ways they got better."

At this point, I'd be kind of shocked if Smith was designated starting QB.
